Joseph Anthony Manginelli

Whippany - Joseph Anthony Manginelli, "Big Joe", of Whippany passed away on April 6, 2021. He was 95. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Chapel, Whippany Rd. in Whippany on Monday, April 12th at 10am. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park. Visiting hours at Bradley-Braviak Funeral Home, 49 Whippany Rd. in Whippany will be on Sunday from 4 to 7pm.

Born in Lyndhurst, NJ, the son of John and Angelina (DiMarinas)) Manginelli, Joe was raised in Newark where he graduated from West Side High School. He had also lived in Irvington before moving to Whippany 50 years ago. Joe proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines during WWII. He fought on Okinawa and was assigned to Tsingtao China for the Japanese surrender. Upon his return from the war, Joe worked at Lionel Trains and later for the New Jersey State Department of Transportation from which he retired in 1991. He was a member of the Polish American Club in Whippany and the Hanover Seniors. An avid bowler Joe was also a big fan of the Mets and the NY Giants.

Joe was the beloved husband of the late Evelyn. He was the loving father of John and his wife JoEllen Popola. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Michelle Cook (Michael), Patricia Guardabascio, and Cristina Coughlin (David), great grandchildren, Anthony, Santino, Nico, Sofia, Maeve and Thomas as well as many loving nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his siblings, Theresa Camasta, Rose DiPaolo, Mary Garubba, Ann Bullis, Paul Manginelli and Michael Manginelli.
