Doreen Malone Obituary

Doreen (Helland) Malone, age 90, of Berkley, Mich.(recently Canton, OH), passed away on July 6, 2012. She was born on November 23, 1921 in Holyoke, Colo. to the late Ralph (Ike) and Bertha Helland. Her family including her oldest sister, Lois (Helland) Tesmer, deceased, and youngest sister, Nelda (Helland) Stranz moved to Berkley in 1930 and Doreen graduated from Berkley High School in 1939. She married Everett Ray Malone (deceased) on November 21, 1939 and he retired as a lieutenant of the Berkley Fire Department in 1970. She had two sons, Ross Everett Malone and Mike Robert Malone who both passed away from muscular dystrophy. She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Doreen Hedding and her husband, Bill; her sister, Nelda and husband, Emil Stranz of Laguna Niguel, Calif; two grand daughters, Dawn (Hedding) Stewart and husband, John, and Janis (Hedding) Powell and husband, David; three great-granddaughters, Shannon and Leah Powell, and Alana Stewart; three great- grandsons, Brandon, David and Coltin Powell; and nieces, Suzanne Stiles, Gail and Gloria Tesmer, and Sally Metzger. Doreen was a loving mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was a charter member of O.W.L. (older Women's League) of Royal Oak, and a charter member of the Great Lakes Lace Group Inc. She loved to crochet and do cake decorating. She was a very sweet, kind and funny lady who was a joy to be around. She will be very much missed by all who knew her.Visitation Tuesday Noon until the 1 p.m. service at Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home, 2125 Twelve Mile Rd., Berkley (2 blocks West of Woodward).
