Charles 53 Obituary
SULPHUR - Charles Carey Elder, 53, died Saturday, July 6, 2013.
Carey was a native of Opelousas, and lived in Sulphur since 1976. He attended Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. He was a member of the Krewe of Cosmos, and the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He enjoyed golfing,cooking, and following football for the McNeese Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints. He owned and operated New World Forest Products.
Survivors include his loving wife of 31 years, Janna Burton Elder; father, Donald Elder of Opelousas; daughters, Kaye Elizabeth Elder of Sulphur, and Andrea Catherine Elder of Sulphur; brothers, Mark Elder of Lafayette, and Paul Elder of Opelousas; sisters, Rachel Elder of New Orleans, and Amie Elder Huber and husband Todd of Tampa, Florida; his father and mother-in-law, James and Judie Burton; numerous nephews and nieces.
He is preceeded in death by his mother, Clara Jean "B.B." Elder.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery under the guidance of Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday with a rosary at 7 p.m., and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service, all in Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers donations be made to a charity that was close to Carey's heart; Bienvenu Counseling Service 6 Flagg Place Suite B Lafayette, LA 70508. Carey was not only a business associate but a dear friend. Carey always wanted to make others happy. He cared for others in special ways. From finding shelter for those in need after Katrina to giving Saints tickets to friends, Carey had a heart of gold. He was truly an angel among us! He will be missed deeply, but remembered lovingly !

I knew Carey most of his adult life & worked with him for 16 years.He was a good hearted man & was never hurtful to anyone.He had a good humor & was always fun to be around.We ahd not been as close in recent years,but i thought of him often & i always knew he would be successful because of his "strong work ethic".I pray that our Lord will be merciful with him as i pray he will be merciful with me.Sincerely,Dick Kennison-Sulphur,la.
