Family-Placed Obituary

SCHEAR, Burt E., M.D. Age 83, died on Sunday, February 27, 2005 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He was born January 29, 1922 to Abe and Sara (nee Brauer) in Dayton, OH. Burt was in the last graduation class of Steele High School in 1940 and then attended the Ohio State University where he graduated with his B.S. in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and after the war attended the University of Cincinnati and received his MD in 1951. Dr. Schear also did post-graduate work at the Miami Valley Hospital before opening his private family practice in Dayton in 1952. He treated patients in the Dayton community as a family practitioner for many years. A charter member of the American Academy of Family Practitioners, a member of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. He was the President of the Family Practice Section of the Ohio State Medical Society. Dr. Schear was also involved in the creation of the medical school at Wright State University. During his career, he mentored and trained many family practitioners. A lifetime member of Beth Abraham Synagogue and also a member of the Jewish War Veterans and the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Circumnavigators Club, reserved for those who have traveled around the world. He was also a member and generous supporter of many other civic and cultural organizations. Survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Betty (Zukerman); his sons, Abe (Linda), Dr. Martin (Susan), Jesse (Shira) and daughter, Dr. Edith (Alan) Pilzer and his adoring grandchildren, Adam, Jenny, Todd, Sara, Jordan, Hana, Cara, Max, and Jacob; brother, Eugene (Doris); many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Funeral service will be held Tuesday 11:00 A.M. at the Beth Abraham Synagogue, 1306 Salem Ave. at Cornell. Rabbi Bernard Barsky officiating. Interment will follow at the Beth Abraham Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Beth Abraham Synagogue or the charity of your choice.
