News Death Notice

COWHERD, David Carlton on March 30, 2011, a great cloud of witnesses rejoiced at the homecoming of David. Born January 25, 1940, in Greensburg, Kentucky, David served the Lord in every aspect of his life. He devoted his life to the study and teaching of God's Word, leading countless souls to faith in Christ. He taught Sunday School for nearly half a century and held Bible studies in his home for more than 20 years. He was a man of integrity and great faith. His faith is now sight, and he is at rest with his Lord. He was a beloved husband, father, friend, and mentor. One of David's favorite Bible verses was Matthew 6:33 - "But seek first His Kingdom and His Righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you." David was Chief Engineer and CEO of CBC Engineers in Centerville, Ohio. He received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky in 1961 and a Master's of Science in Civil Engineering in 1963, with a specialization in geotechnical engineering created specifically for him. He worked for Bowser-Morner Inc. in Dayton for 30 years from 1965 to 1995, designing the foundations for many of the buildings in downtown Dayton, then left to start his own engineering company. CBC Engineers was established September 15, 1995, by David and his business partner Al Banner and has thrived under their leadership ever since. He was a registered Professional Engineer in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Ontario and Alberta, Canada. David is survived by his wife Jeanne of 51 years with whom he made his home in Centerville for 46 years; daughter Karen Cowherd from Bowling Green, Kentucky; daughter and son-in-law Nathan and Linda Crawford from Greensburg, Kentucky; daughter Jill Cowherd from Dallas, Texas; sister-in-law Ann Cowherd from Franklin, Kentucky; niece Amy Peterson and great-niece Katie Peterson from Taylorsville, Kentucky; John Colby Cowherd from Memphis, Tennessee; brother-in-law Jerry Akin and family from San Antonio, Texas; and brother-in-law David Akin and family from Houston, Texas. David's life was a representation of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His love of God's Word, weekly Bible studies (especially Revelation), his leading many young people to accept Christ is an example of a life well lived. He loved life, was a an ardent sportsman, and a good friend to me. I remember his continual fight with the ground hogs in his garden behind the house and his encounter with the raccoon in his wood stove.
I am sure that when David arrived at his home in Heaven he received a "well done thou good and faithful servant! Jerry

It was such a shock to hear about Dave's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with your family in this time of loss. We know that he is now with the Lord. Thank you for all the years you shared him with us in Bible studies, Sunday School, and in service at church. I have never met another person as devoted to the Lord as Dave and I treasure the years that I had the privilege to know him and learn from him. Dave will truly be missed. He was a blessing to all who knew him.

?Deepest condolences and prayers over you and your family in your time of loss. For my part, my clients and colleagues have only recently come to know and to work closely with Mr. Cowherd over the last year. We were all shocked and saddened by the news of his passing. Clearly David’s love of family and faith in God were readily observed by even those who knew him if even casually and serve to demonstrate the extraordinary measure of his character and a life well spent. I hope for you and your family that another small measure of solace can be found in the great esteem in which he was regarded in his personal and professional life in your time of remembrance and reflection.

Cowerd family,
We were grieved to hear the news of David's passing. While I remember more the times with Lynn in the youth group, I know today that David was a consistent, influential part of our church. His love for God's word is the strongest memory I have. May God's comfort be your experience in these days ahead. 2 Corinthians 1:3-5.

Early memories of Dave go back to the 70's and The first Baptist Church of Kettering. Dave and I had teamed up on occasion and gone out on visitation.
Dave's smile and consistant walk as a Christian shall remain in my memories.
Thank you Dave.

I remember a lot of things about my uncle. I remeber going hunting with him on our farm in Pleasant Valley. I cherish the time that we went fishing on Lake Eerie with my father and Grandaddy. I remember when I was in 8th. grade and had questions about Revelation, and he guided me and taught me. There are too many things to list. Many people say that I look like my uncle. I take a lot of pride in being a Cowherd, like my father and uncle. I also take it as a challenge. He was a man of God, who loved Jesus. I hope to follow the example that he set. My heart goes out to you my aunt and cousins, I don't even have word to express...but I pray that God will comfort you in a way that is beyond comprehension.
Love, John

Dear Cowherd family, I was shocked to hear of Dave's accident. I was a charter pilot for Aviation Sales, Inc and between 1995 and 2000 had flown Dave to KY, VA, and southern OH many times. I will remember him as a devote Christian and loving family man. I always enjoyed having him aboard, even the times he left me by myself on a mountain top strip. He and Al were also kind enough to offer our Mexican exchange student daughter Erika a job when she returned to the US as a graduate engineer. She was the one who called to tell us the sad news. Dave definitely left a place in my heart. May God help all of you through this loss.

He touched many lives in his 71 years. Our prayers are with you Jeannie and the girls. May God put his arms around you in this time of loss.

Dave and I grew up only a short distance apart in Green Co., KY, however I was several years younger. Our lives followed similar paths, from the tobacco fields of Green County to UK Engineering and working with the coal industry as consultants. I never will forget the first and only time that Dave and I actually met. We were both appointed to serve on a National Research Council committee on impoundments that met at UK and we ended up sitting beside each other. Dave Rosenbaum, who was from Adair Co. walked into the meeting, and commented, "Whoever would have thought that 2 boys from little old Green County would end up serving on such an august group." (or something like that) That was when I first realized that Dave and I were both actually from Green County. We shared several stories about growing up there and people that we now knew in common.

Dave was one of the most respected engineers in our profession.

Dave Cowherd was the most Godly man I have ever known. I was so blessed to sit under his teaching to singles at First Baptist Kettering. I learned more about the Bible from his teaching then I had my whole life, and I was raised in church. I am saddened and shocked to know that he is no longer with us,but I know he is walking the streets of gold, and what better place to be. I am praying for you Jeannie, and girls. Jeannie you have always stood right by David side as His heart was to teach everyone he could about the word of God. Thank You for being that kind of wife to David.
Love and Prayers, Linda Milam

Words cannot convey my heartfelt sympathy to you, Jeannie and family, To those of you that don't know me, David was like a brother to me as we grew up in Greensburg, played together as children, went all through school together, graduated together, went to church together, and shared so much, and Jeannie was one of my best friends and still is..I only wish I could take away the pain, but David is in a much better place. He was a fine Christian and loved his family and his GOD. I know his life was an example of what a christian should be and he loved the word of God and loved teaching it to others. His memory will always be with those who knew him and loved him..I love you Jeannie. Always your friend, Vicki JO..as we have shared so many wonderful memories together . To your daughers and families, everyone that grew up with your father, respected and loved him and will always treasure his memory..

Dear Jeanie and family,
I now live in Florida, and I was terribly saddened to hear of Dave's passing. No tribute I might give could possibly be equal to Dave's service to his God, his family, the Body of Christ, and any others who had the good fortune to have been part of his life. I know of no other person who gave so much of himself--his time, his talent, and his treasure--in service to our Blessed Lord. My life was wonderfully enriched and positively challenged as a result of having known him. My very best to all of you in this time of terrible loss.

Jeanne,
God used Dave to disciple me when I was in my twenties. Now at fifty-two I have been teaching God's Word for the past 15 years.

For no other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a REWARD (1 Cor 3:11,14). Great is Dave's reward-

Thank you Jeanne for your faithful love and hospitality as you ministered with your husband. You both showed me Christ and for that my heart rejoices.
