Ed was such a fun loving guy and an integral part of our golf groups and neighborhood here in Lakewood Ranch. Everyone loved his dry sense of humor even though occasionally we had to endure his medical jokes :) Ed, was a fellow native Ohioan who shared a common allegiance to Ohio State so we viewed several Buckeye football games together. And I put up with a couple of Notre Dame games as well. We´re all going to miss him dearly but he is upstairs now hitting the ball straighter than ever.

This photo captures how I will always remember "Big Ed!" The center of the smiles, generating the laughs, and just bringing out the best of those surrounding! His dry humor and quick wit live on, and my husband and I quote a couple of his classic lines regularly. Warm and welcoming, he treated me like family and brought so much joy to my life! I´m grateful to know such an incredible extended family thanks to my close bond with my best MU bud, Kim!

I wanted to write for the Mitchell family in Dayton Ohio to offer our deepest condolences to Dr. Sachs family. Dr. Sachs took wonderful care of Ken Mitchell until he passed and my mother Margaret until his retirement when he and his wife retired to St. Marys and then to Florida. He was an excellent doctor who also offered compassion and thoughtfulness about their decisions on their health with his input. On May 18th we will have a Manhattan in his honor. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Sachs family and friends. He will always hold a special place in our family. Kathy Mitchell Haynes

I only met Ed and Janie a few times, but I heard about them often as my parents, George & Helen Vawter, considered them the best of friends. Dad would often quote some health advice he had heard from Ed and strive to follow it himself. It surely helped, Dad lived to 95, but they badly missed Janie and Ed after they moved south. Learning of Ed´s passing from Helen, I want to share our family´s sorrow at the news and wish all the best to Janie.

Ed was my uncle. When I grew older, we progressed beyond being just uncle and nephew to become true friends.

We texted and visited each other often. We would reminisce about the old days and laugh at life, our family members and ourselves.

I have many fond "EW" remembrances, here are just a few:
- Holidays with the family at his house
- Vacations at Cumberland Lake, Hilton Head and Boyne ski trips.
- He had the worst sense of direction
- He wrecked my new moped when I was 15, I never let him forget it, LOL!
- He came to my high school football games
- he got me my first job at Woody´s Little Farm Store
- And many more.......

What all these memories had in common was the warmth, humor and laughter Ed brought to each encounter. Can you hear Ed´s laugh? It was natural, loud, genuine, and uniquely his own, I can hear it right now.

Ed and I shared many common interests: the Sachs / Pruden Ginger Ale legacy, Ohio State / Notre Dame Football, golf, good food and happy hours with Manhattans.

I was blessed to be able to visit Ed in the last week of his life and tell him how much he meant to me, that I was proud of him and that I loved him. Plus, we had one more happy hour, of course with Manhattans.

Ed will be missed but we will see each other again someday, until that day he is with us in our thoughts and memories and those can never die.

"It is foolish and wrong to mourn the man who died. Rather, we should thank God that such a man lived." - George S. Patton, Jr.

Ed and my relationship started by attending Father/Daughter dances with our daughters at their high school. Great times which grew into a great relationship for both families. I'll never forget Ed's facial expression when I told him that I almost took Kristen's head off with a tow rope while tubing at Norris Lake on the SeaDoos. Priceless. Prayers to Janie and the family. I've truly lost a good freind.

Ed and I met at age 13 playing on opposing basketball and baseball teams, but his forte was football. He was first a quarterback and then a defensive back for our high school, Chaminade. Ed was a good all around athlete and quite a competitor. He loved driving his Triumph around town, and if you wanted directions to anywhere he always gave them starting from Kenkels. He always had your back and would help you if you needed help. He was many physicians' physician, and that shows how highly regarded he was. He was also my physician; in fact, he sent me to the hospital when I was having chest pain, which led to quintuple bypass surgery at the young age of 55. He most likely saved my life, and I will be forever grateful. We stayed great friends into adulthood. Ed and Janie honored me by making Kristen's Godfather, and my son Michael is Ed's Godchild. I have fond memories of all the good times we had and will always cherish them in my heart. God bless and keep you "Big Ed," any time I have an old fashioned, I will think of you. You will always be missed.

Ed and I started an internal medicine residency at the Veterans Hospital- Ohio State affiliated in Dayton, Ohio. This was a landmark for both of us. This program set the stage for the most exciting medical career ever. We´ll never forget our fabulous trainer Dr James Taguchi who taught basic medicine at daily morning meetings, then hospital rounds, then teaching us how to present patients to superiors from Ohio State. We had time socialize in skiiing, playing tennis and golf. We knew how to write manuscripts and formulate them into research protocols for later publications. In 3 years we had the best training to prepare our futures. He and I would both celebrate our lives with a Manhattan. I will miss this great man . He´s now in the best place ever. Many blessings Ed. A great doctor. I was honored that he sent me his patients for urologic care. And most important to me, his care for my wife, Barb.
