Matt, know you are proudly serving in heaven's ranks and their are no words that can describe how you have touched my life. I've had the good fortune to collaborate with your father and consider him to be a patriotic cohort and a dear friend. From one warrior to another, will always be with you in spirit and rest assured I will never forget you and our cohorts who gave all and their families. They will always be in my thoughts and prayers. Hooah!

I was in Kuwaitt in 2006, and saw a tribute to Matt Maupin. I took the picture home with me, and I have had that picture on my tree for 10 years now. His picture will always be on my tree, to remind me what a wondeful, brave, handsome young man he was, and of the sacrifice he made for our country. God Bless you Hatt, and your wonderful parents! You will not be forgotten. Carol King

I never met Matt, even though I am his great uncle. I know he is resting in GOD'S arms tonight. He made the ultimate sacrifice helping the rest of us remain free in the best country in the world. I'm sitting here tonight trying to say something to make Keith and Carolyn feel better, although its six years they are still hurting. what I am sure is this; GOD has a plan for each and every one of us. Someday you will have the answer to "why my son?"

A hero at heart. You fought for our country. For that reason alone I felt obligated to show your family respect in this hard time. He is a warrior, only the STRONG DIE YOUNG. Just know and believe he is gone to heaven with our father who does all things well. The great thing about it is her was missing to us for so, long once he died he went straight to HEAVEN. So all these years he has kept you strong from HEAVEN ABOVE. Now all you have to do is live as GOD wants you to so you can see him on that day. Stay strong in the Lord who is strong and mighty.

I have been following the story of Matt Maupin for the past couple of years - waiting like the rest of the world for new about his whereabouts. I wear a bronze "hero braclet" with his name engraved on it and the date he went missing in 2004. I wear it daily as a reminder of all of those military members missing in action, but also in fervent hope for his safe return home. This past weekend I was deeply saddened to learn about his remains being identified and returned to his hometown on Ohio. Matt is now truly "home." I wanted to extend to his family and friends my deepest sympathies for your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Mr. & Mrs. Maupin, I did not know your son but feel that my wife and I did. My son was one of the casket guards that stood by Matts casket while he was at the civic center and the ball park. My son, Sgt. William H. Hasty, was the first shift to guard Matt on Sunday and the last soldiers to guard him on Sunday. My son spent a tour in Iraq coming home last Sept. I am so greatful that he came home safe and wish it could have been for Matt also. All the soldiers have a special place in our hearts and wish that all of them could come home safe. I don't think anyone will ever forget your son for what he did for our country. You have our prayers and deepest sympathy, and will be in our thoughts always.

I was listening to WLW AM 700 on my way to work this week at 4:30 A.M. I drive 82 miles one way to work from Hampton, Georgia to Columbus, Georgia. I heard that Matt was coming home. Upon driving through Warm Springs, Georgia, I stopped on the top of the mountain south of Warm Springs, knelt on the ground, looked at the star lit sky, and asked God to help relieve your pain in the loss of your son, and asked him to help Matt on his way to his side. I said The Lords Prayer. I thanked God for the Maupin Family and their son Matt. I am free because Matt is one of hundred of thousands who gave it all for my freedom, and the freedom of many other people in this world. God's graces are upon Matt, and you, The Maupin Family. All of you are in my prayers. I grieve for Matt, you, and all that knew him...I smile knowing he's in the care of God.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Maupin family,
As a former Marine living in the DC area, I often pass by the "last outposts" situated between the Korean War and Vietnam War Memorials. Seldom do I not stop just to look. Matt's photos have always been diligently posted every where. Today, when I picked up the paper, I saw that he'd been found and had paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Although there is no consolation or words to easy your pain, as I found out personally when my younger brother CW3 Scott Oswell (USMC/USA) was killed last July 4th in Iraq, I do hope that his coming home brings some relief.
The pain is hard to overcome, but knowing that he did it for the love of his country, his fellow soldiers and his way of life is honorable. He died a hero for all those who go about living our daily lives.
Welcome home Soldier. Welcome home.
Semper Fidelis.

We kissed OUR son good-bye as he deployed to Iraq with the 478th Engineer Batallion out of Fort Thomas, KY this past year. That same afternoon, we saw the face of YOUR son for the first time on a poster located in a Cinncinnati resturaunt where we had gone for lunch on our way home. We wept most of the way back in the car---for our son, for your son, for all America's sons who have marched forward honorably and never looked back. Our son handles route clearance, looking for and detonating IEDs, so troops can enter areas safely. He volunteered for hazard duty "so a married man won't have to do it". We were crippled with fear for him, made worse by the fact our nephew has spent more than a year at Walter Reed Hospitol recovering from injuries sustained in a sniper attack.
Now on the very day of YOUR precious son's funeral, we received word that OUR precious son was returning! His tour of duty is nearly complete. We weep again---in joy and relief that our son will come home, and though in anguish for the finality of your loss and the deep scar that this tragedy has left across the heart of all Americans, we weep in bitter-sweet joy that YOUR son, too, has finally come Home! There is not a word adequate to express the tribute and honor in which we hold Matt's memory, nor the admiration and esteem in which we hold you. May precious memories sustain your hearts until we are all reunited in Heavenly Places. We embrace you in spirit and wish you God's peace.

God Bless and be with Matt and his family. Dear God, Matt unselfishly sacrificed his Freedom in the USA to protect Freedom for all. He gave all. I know You will be watching over Matt and his family.
To the family: We live in Arizona but we are there with you in Heart and Soul, watching the Memorial on CNN. Matt is an Angel watching over you now. He is such a handsome and strong looking man. I know you are proud of him. Thank you for all you have done to help others.
God Bless and Keep you. Our Deepest Condolences.
