Family-Placed Obituary

BROWNELL, R. John Jr. age 93, of Dayton passed away Saturday, December 17, 2005 at Kettering Medical Center. John was a member of Fountain Gate Home Church. He was a 1930 graduate of Oakwood High School and went on to found Grant Brownell, an investment banking co., with his lifelong friend Richard H. Grant, Jr. John later served on the Board of Directors at Reynolds and Reynolds and was a member of the Dayton Country Club since 1944. His claim to fame; however, was being "Mr. Sing-A-Long." John was a devoted family man and was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret; daughters, Sally Isaac and Peggy Welsh; sisters, Mary Meyers and Susan Ross; and son-in-law, Mike Reynolds. He is survived by his devoted wife, Joyce; daughters, Jacky "Buttons" (Roger) Johnson, Betsy Reynolds, Ginny (Tom) Ledinsky and step-daughter Jamii (John) Eskins; sister, Betty Bollman; nephew, Richard Meyers; niece, Bonnie Whitehead; and many other nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Sarah Isaac, Kim (Gary) Williamson, Kathy (Karl) Sanders, John (Kelly) Welsh, Kelly Gregorchik, Melissa Ledinsky, Joshua, Sarah, and Johnathan Eskins and 9 great-grandchildren. A funeral service to celebrate John's life will be held Friday, December 23, 2005 at 1:00 PM at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering with Pastor Donald Frederick officiating. John's family will receive friends Thursday from 5-7:00 PM at the funeral home. Entombment in David's Mausoleum. The family would especially like to thank all of the doctors and caregivers for all of their loving kindness. In memory of John, contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
