Wm. STRAUGHEN Obituary


News Death Notice

STRAUGHEN, Wm. (Bill) Joseph Passed away Dec. 27, 2015. Born Aug 10, 1033 in Penn's Grove, NJ, to James Franklin (Hank) and Dorothy Leppert Straughn. He attended Juniata College and Hahnemann Medical School. In 1958 he married Peggy Barbour and they celebrated 50 years together. Bill served in the Public Health Service in locations throughout the US then settling in Dayton in 1967 where he worked for Miami Valley Hospital for 30 years. He was an avid bird-watcher, bicyclist and involved member of Normandy UMC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy, survived by sister Betty (Ted) Terry of Bethlehem, PA; brother, Jim Straughn of Carney's Point, NJ; his three children, Polly Straughen McAuliffe of Tallahassee, FL, Heidi (Craig) Anderson, Centerville, OH, Joel (Nancy) Straughen, NYC; and seven grandchildren: Molly, Ellen and Eric Anderson; Tegan and Sloane Straughen; Emma Jo and Jack McAuliffe. A thank you to the Brighton Gardens and Brookdale communities and special thanks to the loving ladies of Arcadia Home Care. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Normandy UMC on Jan 16th, 11 AM with visitation starting at 10 AM. There will be a reception at the church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to one of Bill's favorite charities: Ranch Hope, The Nature Conservancy, Rails-to-Trails, or the Endowment Fund of Normandy UMC. Condolences and other remembrances may be sent to the family at www.routsong.com.
