Christopher Massaferi Obituary

Christopher R. Massaferi

Christopher R. Massaferi, 52, of Newark, passed away with his family by his side at Christiana Hospital on Monday, October 8, 2012.

Born in Wilmington, Chris graduated from Alexis I. duPont High School and the University of Delaware, majoring in Criminal Justice. He was a graduate of the Central Florida Criminal Justice Center in Orlando Florida, and served as a police officer for the Delaware River and Bay Authority. Chris was the DDC Supervisor for the Delaware Safety Council, managing the various educational safety programs in Defensive Driving, DUI, and dedicated countless hours promoting safe driving in our state. Before his death, Chris worked as a manager for the AAA Mid-Atlantic Foundation for Safety and Education. His clients included civic groups, corporations, and schools in Delaware and New Jersey. A dedicated runner, Chris was also a voracious reader of military history and politics and enjoyed Saturday morning coffee with Papa. His true love, however, was UD Football, and was a season ticket holder for over 25 years. He enjoyed watching football practice, and traveling with the Blue Hen Touchdown Club.

Chris is survived by his parents, Robert and Caroline Massaferi; his brother Bob, and his special niece, Sarah.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Sunday, October 14 from 2 to 4 pm.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Pamela Simpson and everyone at the Helen Graham Cancer Center, and Vitas Hospice for their support.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, 4735 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713.

To the Massaferi family, I am deeply saddened about your loss. Chris was one of the most ethical and kind people I have ever known. I admired his honesty and kindness towards others. Bob and Caroline: I want you to know how sorry I was to learn about the loss of your son Chris. I remember meeting him when he was just a little boy, so full of pep and personality. He was a delightful young lad then and I'm certain he must have grown up to be equally delightful as a young man. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time. With my deepest sympathy,
