Christopher, a kind, caring and loving young man, was tragically taken from us Sunday, August 31, 2014 at the age of 23. Chris was born in 1991 the beloved son of Christina and Michael Mattera. He attended The Pilot School and St. Marks High School where he graduated in 2010. He attended Delaware Technical Community College and went on to a successful career in the Telecommunications industry, where every day, he fearlessly worked hundreds of feet above us all. He was a talented musician who played guitar for his school, the School of Rock and his own pleasure and that of his family. He had a beautiful, tender heart and soul and gave most freely of his love, if you were his friend, you were his family. Chris was the light of our lives for so long. First grandson to the Dougherty side, so precious and delightful he was an infinite joy to his Gigi, Mom Mom, Aunt Anna and his two grandpops. His parents Michael and Tina were blessed with the most beautiful child ever born, so full of life and the spirit of kindness, who grew to become such a fine, fine young man. We will never forget. To his brother, Matthew, whom he loved with all his heart, he led the way to show how to make things work out for the best, and how to be loving and strong. They were the closest of confidants and friends. Chris met the world with open arms, and a smile, was adored by his many friends and family and leaves us with broken hearts, so difficult to mend.

We will all long for your embrace again.

Chris is survived by his parents; Christina and Michael Mattera, his brother Matthew, his grandmother Dorothy Mattera, his aunts and uncles; Sean and Holly Dougherty, Lisa and Brian Dougherty, Jay and Betsy Mattera, Tracy and Robert Allvord and Patti Ann Mattera, by his cousins; Jake, Amanda, Michele, Evan, Natalie, Brendan, Lizzie, Maggie and Michael McErlaine and his dearest family friends Heidi and Timothy Mizell, Shane and Melissa, who all will miss him tremendously.

Friends and family are welcome to visit from 6-9 pm on Wednesday September 10, 2014 at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 am on Thursday September 11, 2014 at The Church of The Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Road, Wilmington. Burial will be private.
