David Smith Obituary

David S. Smith

Wilmington - David S. Smith, age 65, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, June 6, 2021. David was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Henrietta (Kicklighter) and Fredrick Smith. He graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor's degree and was a Customer Service Representative for Discover Card. His family described David as a sweet and kind man, who was a stranger to no one, and wanted nothing but positive vibes for all. In his free time, he loved to listen to music, especially his favorite band, the Grateful Dead. He also loved reading, concert going, and traveling with his wife. In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his sister, Martha Smith.

David is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Angelika Smith of Newark; his daughter, Heather Anne Smith of Aberdeen, NC; his nephew, Joshua Smith of Asheville, NC; and numerous close friends whom he loved all dearly.

A visitation for David will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021, at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Rd Wilmington, DE, 19805 where friends may call from 11:30am to 12:30pm, with a memorial service starting at 12:30pm. Burial will be private.

David was one of The first agent I came in contact with on my first day in a new role as a coach at Discover. I was nervous and would often tell him cell but he let me know that I was doing a good job. David never let me walk down the aisle without putting a smile on my face even when I didn´t feel like it and was having a rough day. May his spirit forever Be in the minds and hearts of everyone that he has come in contact with. My Condolences to his family and loves ones.

I worked with David at Discover, even though I only knew him for a short while he left such a lasting impression on me. He trained me when I was new and his advice to me was "Never stop having fun, work hard so you can play hard" that stuck with me through the years.
I helped to plan his Retirement Party, he had such a wonderful time that day catching up with old friends and colleagues, he even invited the cafeteria workers.
David was so loved at Discover Card!! Prayers to your family.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief. He was a wonderful person and always there to make you smile when you were down. Always made me laugh!
