Doris Cornett Obituary

Doris Jeanne Cornett

Doris Jeanne Cornett, age 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at her residence in Elkton, MD, following a lingering illness.

Mrs. Cornett was born on July 3, 1931, in Street, MD, to the late Garland J. and Dorothy Main Leonard. Upon graduation from Delta High School, Delta, PA, and Goldey-Beacom Business College, Wilmington, DE, she enjoyed a long and successful career as an executive secretary with the DuPont Company, Wilmington, DE.

Mrs. Cornett was the beloved wife of James Donald Cornett, and the two shared 63 wonderful years together. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Elkton where she served in multiple capacities as historian, secretary and teacher. She and Mr. Cornett enjoyed traveling and she kept meticulous journals from their many trips abroad. Mrs. Cornett loved volunteering for many years at the DuPont-sponsored Ronald McDonald Charity Golf Tournament. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and family genealogy. She will be remembered for her gracious hospitality and her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens.

In addition to her loving husband, she leaves behind many others who cherish her memory, including sisters, Ruthie Thompson (Mike), San Angelo, TX, Penny Gibby (Charlie), Hydes, MD, Patricia Forbes (Ronald), Bel Air, MD, and Betty Nelson (James), San Antonio, TX; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and beloved friends.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cornett was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Mae Campagna.

The family wishes to thank all of her caregivers, especially the devoted staff of Amedisys Hospice in Elkton.

Funeral service will be held at 12 Noon, Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Elkton, 607 Delaware Avenue, Elkton, where visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Following the service, interment will take place in Gilpin Manor Memorial Park, Elkton.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to First Baptist Church of Elkton, 607 Delaware Avenue, Elkton, MD 21921, or to Amedisys Hospice, 107 Chesapeake Blvd, Suite 134, Elkton, MD 21921.
