Leonard Stanitski Obituary
Wilmington - Leonard J. Stanitski, age 85, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully, while surrounded by family, on Monday, August 5, 2019. Leonard was born in Shamokin, PA, and graduated from Kulpmont High School in 1951. After serving in the US Army, where he was stationed in Germany, Len moved to Wilmington and began working for General Motors. He retired from GM in 1987 after 35 years. Len was a parishioner at St. Matthew's Catholic Church. Len enjoyed listening to polka music and playing polkas on his accordion. He also enjoyed making coin jewelry.
Len is survived by the love of his life, Georgine, his wife of 61 years; son, Daniel Stanitski (Denise) of Newark, DE; daughter Leanne Stanitski Dalton (Ronald) of Stafford, VA; 6 grandchildren: Dana Dougherty (Michael), Daniel Stanitski Jr., Samuel Stanitski, Justin Dalton, Steven Dalton (Kalyn), and Rebeka Dalton; great-grandson, Maxwell Dougherty; sister, Leona Kutchen; and brother, Frank Stanitski Jr (Monica) and Raymond Stanitski (Patricia). He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Julia Stanitski.
A visitation will be held Thursday, August 8, 2019, from 10:30 AM-12 Noon at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a service in celebration of Len's life at 12 Noon. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery. The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers from St. Francis in-home care, The Kutz Nursing Home, personal caregivers, and Len's long-time in-home caregiver, Barbara.
