Mrs. Shirley Sipple Micklos, age 83 of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Pottstown, PA and Dover, DE died on Monday, October 17, 2005, at the Kentmere Nursing Home in Wilmington, DE.
Born in Felton, DE March 6, 1922, Mrs. Micklos was a 1944 graduate of the University of Delaware. She was a gifted educator and taught for several years in the public schools of Kent County, DE. Among her academic accomplishments, Mrs. Micklos authored the 1948 textbook Delaware...Through the Years: Stories about Delaware and the part it played in the growth of our nation. Following her retirement from education, she worked as a guide at the Delaware State Museum in Dover, DE for 10 years. In her leisure time, Mrs. Micklos greatly enjoyed traveling, dining out and solving crossword puzzles.
Her husband, John J. Micklos, Sr., died in 1971. She is survived by her son, John J. Micklos, Jr. of Newark, DE; brother, Lyman Sipple of Dover, DE; sister, Charlotte Micklos of Catonsville, MD; and 2 grandchildren, Amy Micklos and John J. Micklos III.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, October 21, 2005, at the New Ark United Church of Christ, 300 E. Main Street, Newark, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Kentmere Nursing Home, 1900 Lovering Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19806.
