Andrew DeMaio Obituary

Andrew (Andy) DeMaio, “Andy the Mailman”, 88, passed away March 30, 2017 at Riddle Memorial Hospital. Born in Chester, PA, he lived in Bridgeton, NJ, Chester, Aston, and for the last 32 years in Wallingford, PA. He worked for the US Postal Service for over 34 years, 29 of those serving his beloved route including Cambridge Estates and much of Brookhaven. He will be remembered for his kind spirit and always being “fine like wine”. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 48 years, Doris S. (nee Hunt) – his “Sweets”. He is survived by his daughter Susan (Allen) Dempsey and his son Chuck (Gina) DeMaio; his 4 grandchildren Heather, Brandon, Alicia, and Andrew. Funeral mass will be held Wednesday 11am at St. John’s Chrysostom, 617 S. Providence Rd., Wallingford, PA, 19086. Visitation: Wednesday 9:30-11:00am at the church. Burial private. My condolences to the family of "Andy the mailman". "Andy the mailman" was a household name!! I grew up with ONE mailman...Andy; it's not like today where you might have a new mailman every couple of months. Andy delivered mail in Cambridge Estates and I lived there from 1967 to 1978. We (all the kids in the neighborhood) loved to talk and walk with Andy. He made it a point to know each of our names and he was so kind to allow us to slow him down as he delivered our mail. My mother attended the Brookhaven Seniors group and to this day I would still ask her "how is Andy the mailman doing?". I am so sad for your loss, but I want you to know how many smiles he brought to the children of Cambridge Estates!!

The Strong Family

Our condolences to the family. Andy was a great neighbor and one of the first to welcome our family when we moved to Saybrook Lane. His "fine like wine" greeting will truly be missed.

Andy the Mailman was the first person to welcome our family to Brookhaven many years ago. He always had a smile on his face and a friendly greeting for everyone. We missed him when he retired. Other people delivered our mail, but no one ever came close to replacing him. Our sincere condolences to his family.

My sincere sympathy to the DeMaio family. Andy was a fine man he had been a volunteer for Meals On Wheels for the past 10 years and drove every Monday. His favorite saying was he was fine like wine, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
