1935-2015 Daniel James Gallagher, Jr., age 80, died Sunday, June 14, 2015 at Taylor Hospice. Born in Philadelphia, he had been a resident of Collingdale for 54 years. Mr. Gallagher had been employed as a Credit Supervisor at PECO before retiring in 1989 after 38 years. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Mr. Gallagher was a member of Blessed Virgin Mary Church for 59 years. He was a lay Vincentian and served a president of the St. Vincent de Paul Food Cupboard at BVM for many years. He played baseball for the Quakers in his youth and was an avid Philadelphia sports fan. He enjoyed gardening and photography in his leisure. He was predeceased by his parents, Daniel J., Sr. and Catherine (nee Lavery) Gallagher. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy C. (nee Moore) Gallagher; his sons, Kenneth (Valerie), Joseph, Paul (Karen), and James Gallagher; and his daughters, Lory Gallagher, Maria Cavallaro, and Danielle (John) Vanore. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brian, Daniel, Jason, and Gabriella; his brother, Hugh Gallagher; and his sisters, Rosemary McLaughlin, Kathleen Lombardo, and Jane McGee. Relatives and friends are invited to the Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 1101 Main Street, Darby. There will be a Viewing after 8:30 a.m. Thursday at Marvil Funeral Home, 1110 Main Street, Darby. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Cupboard/BVM in care of BVM Church. or the BVM Tuition Assistance Fund at the church address.
