DELAWARE — Janice Lavone Powell, 81, of Delaware passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, April 21, 2021 at Grady Memorial Hospital. She was born September 4, 1939 in Delaware to the late Homer and Viva Viola Vaughn (Conway) Askins.
Jan worked as a bartender at several locations including the Eagles #376 of Delaware. She was a member of the AmVets Post #102, Moose Lodge #1167 and the Eagles #376, all of Delaware. She enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, bird and squirrel watching, baking, and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed trips to Indian Lake and Florida, playing cards, and hosting Christmas Eve open house at her home. When younger, she enjoyed bowling.
In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by her grandchildren Joshua Dague, Angela Vigil and SPC Zachary Myers, brothers and sisters Joseph, Merle, Shirley, Olive Eileen, Betty, Reda, and Jerry and her sister-in-law Karen Askins.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 42 years, Eldon; her children, Jay "Jerry" (Michi) Dague of Delaware, Peggy (Sid) Vigil of Ostrander and Penny (Jerry) Myers of Delaware; 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren; brother, Eldon Askins of Lapeer, Michigan; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 26, 2021 from 4–7 p.m. at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive at W. William Street, Delaware, where services celebrating Jan's life will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Marvin Hintz officiating. Burial will then be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery in Delaware.
