Caroline Pluta (Lotosky)
Rochester - Born March 9, 1922 in Castile, NY to Stephen and Mary Lotosky. Caroline lived a long and prosperous life that ended November 16, 2020 at the age of 98. Her parents, both Ukrainian immigrants, herself and her siblings grew up on a farm where they learned the importance of hard work. A product of the depression, she wasted nothing and saved everything. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1940 and in 1947 married Peter Pluta. As young adults, they were active in the Ukrainian American community in Rochester. First settling in Irondequoit and then in 1964 moving to Honeoye Falls, where she lived until she passed. The family enjoyed summering in the Adirondack's Fourth Lake for many years and family gatherings at the farm in Honeoye Falls. She was married for 53 years, having four children, 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Her family was her pride and joy. She was kind and generous. She was active with her husband in several charitable endeavors, including the original Wasyl Pluta Cancer Center at Genesee Hospital, the current Dental and Oncology Units at Rochester General Hospital, and Mary Cariola Children's Center. In her husband's retirement they made the most of their hard-earned comfort and traveled the world, from China, to Kenya, to Alaska, and many places in between. Being well suited to farm life, she was also happy to be home, surrounded by her grandchildren and her many pets. Over the years she had numerous dogs that she loved dearly. She was sharp and clear-headed until the end but eventually her body could not keep up.
We want to thank her many caregivers, especially Rosa, who were her companions for the last three years. We also want to thank the doctors and staff at Rochester General Hospital who were with her at the end.
Caroline was predeceased by her husband, Peter; daughters-in-law, Carole C. Pluta and Debbie Pluta; grandson, Steven Haag; her sister, Sophia Shewchuk (John) and her brother, John Lott (Olga). She is survived by her children, James, Joyce (Robert) Haag, Wesley and Wayne (Sarah); grandchildren, Christopher (Jennifer), Sarah, Victoria (Richard) Goss, Emily (Brandon) Ferrer, Ellen (Steven) Gedra, Peter, William, and Charles; as well as seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
