Joyce, Thank you for your response to my message. Please accept my personal condolences. A little bit about me, and a few more memories. We lived on second street in Elmira across from Bob. My family rented an apartment in the dumpy house that was was really for poor people, and we were poor. We came to the US in 1952 as Displaced Persons from Germany and second street was our first home. I celebrated my 65 birthday today with my family, and we reminised a little about second street. Well, since second street, I graduated from EFA, then from the
U of Rochester with an engineering degree. I have been an engineer at Bausch and Lomb, Director of Technology for Coopervision for 15 years and a medical engineer. I retired this year, got bored and now I teach special education for middle schools kids. I have two sons, also college grads and two beautiful grandchildren. Since reading other peoples comments and memories, I remember the "get the flag" game and I remember a huge (to me anyway)snow fort and snow ball fights. These were new things to me and I remember them vividly, along with a big tree on our street from Hurricane Helen. But, I still remember Bob. Always full of energy and a great smile. So in a small way, but very important to me, Bob was a small, but important piece of America in my heart. I believe with today's world, God needed a man like Bob up there with him....he will continue his good work.

I worked with Bob at NYS Dept of Tax and Finance. The office was never quite the same after he retired - he was a joy to know and my life is blessed in knowing him. My condolences to his family. We now have a great singer and wonderful man to watch over us.

Bob was my very good friend. For that I am thankful. I will miss him and his good humor. We had many good times together in Elmira,Corning and Henrietta. He made two tapes for my wife Muriel and me to enjoy of his singing gospel hymns and popular songs. His wonderful singing voice is still with us. In Job 1:21 we read,"The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away;blessed be the name of the Lord." Amen.

I remember Bob when I was a kid in Elmira in the 50's. I recall a horse chestnut tree in their back yard once and we had a horse chestnut fight that was a lot of fun. Bob really got into it and I remember him all covered with Iodine on his scratches. To this day (55+ years ago)I remember him as a really nice person and his warm manner to me. He will be missed.

Uncle Robert was always a steadfast, great presence at every family function. He came to my wedding in NH, and sang 'Blue Moon" which my husband Luke and I remember as being a highlight of the day. I remember listening to him sing Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash songs on summer nights from my bedroom window, as he was staying at Grandmas house. I always enjoyed listening to him sing. I know his family was utmost to him, and his 4th of July parties were always a fun event. I will miss you Uncle Robert, rest in peace.

To my Aunt Joyce, Laura & Les and family: I will always remember My Uncle Robert taking me with my cousins, Laura & Les to play pool,to eat M&M hotdogs (the best in the world); to the Capitol Theatre (Disney movies) on Saturdays; hiking and playing Capture the Flag for hours on end on West Hill. Those were some of the fondest Saturdays and Sundays of my entire lifetime. My Uncle had an amazing voice, too, just like his sister, my Mom. He loved to sing "The Old Gray Mare" among tons of Johnny Cash etc. I think his favorite was "Blue Moon" which he sang at most family weddings. I'll surely miss my Uncle Robert. -Your niece, -Betsy-
