Ruth Ewell Obituary
Rochester: Ruth K. Ewell passed away on January 28, 2017, at the age of 92.
She was born Ruth Dorothy Kircher in New York City and was educated at Hunter College. Subsequently, she worked as an executive secretary at the Johns Manville construction company. She met and married the late Matson G. Ewell in 1948 after meeting him on a windjammer cruise in Chesapeake Bay and lived in Annapolis, MD for two years. They subsequently moved to Rochester, NY in 1952 when Matson went to work as a teacher at the Harley School. She began employment at the School as the Headmaster's secretary from 1960-1980, then as the college counsellor from 1980-1986. Both Ewells remained associated with and supportive of the school for their entire lives.
She is survived two sons—Peter Tucker Ewell of Boulder, Colorado and Louis Jay Ewell of Avoca, New York. The family has asked that gifts in memory of Ruth Ewell be directed to The Harley School.
