Charles Bridges Obituary

Charles Norwood Bridges

Charles Norwood Bridges, 91, died on October 25, 2018 in Corinth, Texas. He was born in Lake Dallas, Texas on January 16, 1927 to Amy (Sipes) and Jesse Bridges. After serving in the Army in WWII, he graduated from the University of Texas in June 1951, with a degree in Mathematics. Charles spent his entire career with Southwestern Life Insurance Company, retiring in 1984 as Vice President of Data Processing. He married the love of his life, Gaye (Coleman), on September 11, 1954. During the fifty-nine years he and Gaye lived in Shady Shores, Texas, Charles served as the towns mayor from 1963-64, on the Lake Dallas Independent School board from 1969 -77 and on the Lake Cities Municipal Utilities Authority board from 1996-2003. Charles was known for the large vegetable garden he grew every year, sharing its bounty with family and friends. Capitalizing on his knowledge of plants, he became a Denton County Master Gardener after he retired and generously shared his expertise with others.

He will be dearly missed by Gaye, his beloved wife, his daughter, Sylvia Morgan, and her husband, Jeff, of Pilot Point, Texas, sisters-in-law, Jo Bridges of Houston and June Cate of Corinth, nieces and a nephew, and friends, especially long-time Shady Shores neighbors Don and Joann Lee and Frank and Judy Graham. He was predeceased by his son, Coleman Bridges, brother, Kenneth Bridges and sister, Beatrice Whitehead.

The family is grateful to the staff at Autumn Oaks Assisted Living in Corinth and LifeWay Hospice of Carrollton for their care and compassion.

Charles will be interred at the Owens Cemetery in Athens, Texas. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
