He was my doctor for more than twenty years. He was an amazing doctor and always sat down to talk about anything I might ask. Over the years he was not just a doctor but a good friend. I had a change in my insurance so I had to switch from him the year before he retired. He told me before that he would work at Craig disability hospital. He was very excited about it. He was just a wonderful dad, husband, and doctor as was Charles Dafoe both great people.

What a wonderful doctor he was and a friend I felt after being his patient over so many years! I´ll never forget one visit I´d gone into the room and he came in shortly and ask how I was, and before I could answer he say wait a minute " your fine right" lol cause I´d always say I´m fine when I actually went in for something bothering me! Lol I wasn´t very talkative as a patient! He and his buddy. Another great Doctor Charles Dafoe also my doctor. Those two did bring my quietness out of me lol! Can´t say enough about Alan Spee´s he´s truly missed.

I think of Allen Spee´s often and wish there were more Doctors out there like him! He was so thoughtful and listened when you had concerns about your health! I had no idea he would be gone in four years after I´d had to change doctors because of insurance change! I know Allen is up there with Dr.Charles Dafoe also his friend and my OBGYN who sent me to Dr Spee´s in the first place since I had no PCP. And I am grateful. I pray his family is healing and that they know what a wonderful man and Doctor he was! He is missed!

He will be truly missed. My condolences to his family. I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sorry this is late but I just found this out. God be with you all.

As we frequently drive past the previous location of our old office, I can't help but think of Alan and the
other physicians who shared our building. We have such good memories of those who have gone before.

I have so many fond memories of Al Spees. My husband, Mark, worked with him for many years at DIMG and Craig Hospital, and we had the pleasure of getting to know the family. When we saw Al at social gatherings, he was always present for conversations and never failed to ask questions about life and our family. He just exuded a kind and caring manner. He modeled his focus on the bigger arena of life outside of medicine. As an aside, it was so much fun to walk in his office at Denver Internal Medicine and see the multitude of pictures that adorned his walls. We always figured that Oliver, Tanner and Heidi were extraordinarily lucky to have such adventurous parents. Their poise and speeches at the funeral are a testimony to this special life. I am going to miss Al calling to ask if he could talk to the big guy with his calm and measured demeanor. His service was truly a testimony to his legacy. We will miss him.

Dr. Spees was my PCP for at least 15 years. He listened, cared and was extremely thorough; not just on the routine med-check visits, but also the urgent ones. Once, when he was too busy to see me during one of those urgent care or moments I was assigned to a new young internist. She looked at the swollen area Just above my waist on my back. It also had red streaks to going upwards but was unable to determine the cause. After about 30 minutes Dr Spees came in from his busy schedule. He looked at it and determined I had been bitten by a spider and it had become infected, with the venom going up through one of the lymph node systems. Experience was everything, and a great teaching moment for that young internist!
Not only did he talk about what was going on in my life and with my family, but we often talked about his. Craig Hospital, singing in the Chorale, his family, college graduations, medical schools ( both of us had sons who had gone through the modern-day experience of applying to, not getting accepted, getting accepted, and the supportive nature of being a parent during that process).
Alan Spees wasn't just a PCP. He was a caring, sharing person of great integrity. The world has lost one of the great ones, but Heaven has gained an angel, and the night sky a new star.

Today while waiting for a dental appointment, my path crossed that of Jennie Exley who is from CNS Medical Group. She told me of the very sad passing of Al. He and my late husband, Mark P. Cilo, MD, worked frequently together at Kindred, Pres St Luke's and, of course, Craig Hospital. Although I did not know Al well, I heard frequently from my husband about him. Mark used to say that Al Spees is the most ethical doctor I have ever met. Mark was also fascinated by and grateful for both Al's diagnostic and treatment brilliance. Patients loved him.
I am so very sorry that I did not know sooner about his death. No doubt you have lost a wonderful man from whom so many of us learned. God Bless you all. I can only wish for you that your happier memories from times past will nurture your souls.
With my very best wishes, to you all.

As a former associate physician who shared an office space immediately across the hall from Alan for about 5 years, I was shocked and saddened to learn of his passing. We shared call and visits on our patients and I had great respect for Alan's medical expertise. We enjoyed some tennis matches together years ago as well as sharing about individual experiences in Africa. Since my retirement our paths rarely crossed and I last saw him about 9 months ago at a medical meeting. Our prayers go out to all family members . David

I met Al when I was an intern in 1976 and always enjoyed working with him over the years. I always appreciated his asking me to help with a consultation, loved his sense of humor, his excellent patient care, and chatting with him after an organized race in town. He will be missed by many!
