I just learned of Debbie's passing. She was my best pal throughout childhood. Wish I could have joined family and friends in some storytelling about growing up together. Laughter was our life, even at the most inappropriate times. I remember once, kneeling at the altar waiting for communion when something our youth minister said struck us in a particularly funny way. We ditched church on many occasions with Mary Babbs, the minister's daughter, and we were kicked out of Girl Scouts for too many hysterical outbursts. (Our leader had no sense of humor.) Debbie's dad taught us to ride bikes on the field at Smiley. Some upright posts were like a magnet to Debbie, who managed to crash into every one as she worked her way across the field. Almost every teacher we had separated us and sent us home with a check mark on our report cards, "Won't refrain from unnecessary talking." Her mom, Billie, let us stay home with her during the Cuban Missile Crisis and we stayed at my house watching Walter Cronkite keep us posted about President Kennedy's condition. I stayed at her house for a week when her dad died. We were in 6th grade. He got up one morning and died of a heart attack. Gone. We were too young to fathom this loss.
She got a yellow Firebird convertible for her 16th birthday and I got a blue '53 Plymouth. Never seemed fair, except I could sneak more friends into the drive-in.
We enrolled in a summer program in Greece during one of our college years and spent three weeks doing the "it's Tuesday, it must be Belgium" tour of Europe prior to arriving in Athens. I'm feeling very lonely to realize I'm now the only one who carries these years of memories.
Lincoln and Carrie, I am so sorry for your loss.

Dear Carrie and Lincoln,
Your mother always was the bright smile at Steck and at Crestmoor, and at the grocery store, or wherever we saw her. Her love for you both, and for her family of friends and all her "kids" will be remembered for always. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I only met Debbie a few years ago but we became fast friends and spent much time together these last 4 years. My children adore her and words can't express how much she will be missed. I will always cherish the time we had. She was a true friend.

For a friend and co-worker whose laughter would make me smile to hear it; whose delightful sense of humor could make me chuckle for hours; whose gentleness and kindness would warm the soul. Be at peace and know that your memory will be a blessing to us.
