Ace was my main source of info on Monarch Airlines where he flew 1948 to 1950.
He was also very helpful with early Frontier Airlines history.
Even 12 years after he flew west, I still catch myself thinking,
"I'll check with Ace on this." when some point of aviation history with Monarch or Frontier comes up.
I built a memorial webpage for him at

Yes, it's a late entry. However, upon recently learning of Capt. Ace's passing, I need to say a few words in his behalf.
I was one of the many fortunate ones to have flown with Capt. Ace, at ol' Frontier; an enlightening experience in itself; the "side," off duty interaction, as well, which did not stop there.
During my tour with Continental Air Micronesia, Ace came out to Guam to visit his bro-in-law, Capt. Jim Appleby. I, also, would frequently visit Capt. Jim at his "digs." Once, when Capt. Jim was out on a flight, and unbeknown to me, Ace appeared at Jim's door of the residence. Well, I have to say that then and there, through backyard conversation, is when Capt. Ace and I had developed a reverent respect for each other through our shared love of, and joint experiences at old FAL. I'll not ever forget it. ... God's speed, Capt. Ace Avakian, and many blessings to your extended "family."
Respectfully,
Marv[in] R. Larson,
Capt., FAL-CAL, Retired

Ace probably never knew how far reaching his personna has been. I always enjoyed his good nature and warm ways in the crew room albeit I was never fortunate to share his cockpit at good ol' Frontier.
Finally, he shared mine! Cheryl and I welcomed Janet and Ace in Toulouse France for a flight test and delivery of a new A-320 to Ace's home town of New Yawk! Ace certainly had a way of making each moment memorable.
Even more so, since we were there during 9-11! We also had another Frontier couple on board, Bill & Donna Brown. Bill had flown co-pilot with me at Frontier, but was with Jet Blue then.
I enjoyed nearly daily phone visits with Ace up to a few days before his Flight West. I bet everyone who knew Ace misses him as much as Cheryl & I do and that is a LOT... What a guy!

Ace was one of the first and most fun to fly with Captains I had on the DC3 at the old FAL in PHX. We became friends and have remained so for the last 48 years..... I will miss him...All my sympathy to "J J" and the "kids"..

I never got to fly with Ace but I was always fascinated by his many stories. What a sense of humor! The aviation community has suffered a loss with his passing. My heartfelt condolences to his family. Kevin Harlow (Skyriders)

I've known Ace and Janet for many years as a co-owner of our Skyrider aircraft. Ace was always an active participant and a joy to be around. I always enjoyed his humor and kidding. My sympathy goes out to Janet and the family. May God bless and care for the family.

Started missing Ace when FAL closed. Was always glad to see him on his arrival at DFW. What a smile.

Ace was a very good friend to my dad, and visited him when he was in the hospital. A very noble gentleman. God speed and tailwinds into the beautiful western sunset. He will be sorely missed.
