Robert Deter Obituary

Bob Deter, 81, of Littleton, CO passed away. He was born in Denver to Roberta and Martin Deter. He attended Denver West High School and graduated from Colorado State College (UNC) 1963, earning his master's degree in education. He worked as a teacher and coach at Sheridan High School 1964-1994. He was dedicated to his students and players. At Sheridan, he coached basketball, track and football, winning several state championships and having two perfect seasons in football. After leaving Sheridan 1994, he was head coach at Elizabeth and assistant coach at Bear Creek and D'Evelyn high schools. He also refereed basketball. Lastly, he continued to work track events as an official and Starter, being involved with Colorado High School track for a benchmark of 50 years. Among numerous awards, he was most proud of CHSCA two-time Teacher-Coach of the Year, CHSCA Don Descombes Distinguished Service Award and his induction into the CHSCA Hall of Fame. Deter was an avid golfer and loved horse racing, loved his players and competition, but most of all, he loved his family. Survived by his wife Donna of 58 years, sons: Kyle, Bill (Annmarie), and Deron (Marcie), grandchildren Madison, Logan, Aayla, Ryker, Dalton and Wylon. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Roberta and Martin Deter, Sister Lois LaGrange, and brothers Chuck and Dale Deter. A Celebration of Life will be held to honor Bob 11AM, May 21, 2022, Hudson Gardens 6115 S Santa Fe Dr., Littleton. Lunch and beverages will be provided. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Foothills Animal Shelter; foothillsanimalshelter.org.

So sorry to hear of Bob's passing; I learned of it today in a phone conversation with another mutual friend, Joe Corre. I played football at CSC with Bob, one of the funniest guys I ever met. I'll be toasting him tonight.

The years he was my coach we became good friends. We saw each periodically over the years. The last time I saw him was the 50 year football reunion at Monahans. Such good times. These are the great coaches of Sheridan. Never to be again. I played for all four of them.

Truly amazing, two of Sheridan's stalwart coach's who were dear friends pass away 2 weeks from each other.
I knew Coach Deter as a mentor and friend passed my Sheridan times.
I am very sorry that I have a prior family commitment to attend in Wyoming that same day as Coach Deter's Celebration at Hudson Garden's.
For some reason I was known to him as Swan Dog..I hold that nickname in honor of my beloved Coach.
