Stephen Abernathy Obituary

Abernathy, Stephen
July 20, 1960 - January 23, 2022
Stephen Wayne Abernathy passed away on January 23rd, 2022. He was born on July 20, 1960, in Calgary, Alberta to parents Wayne Biard Abernathy and Nina Jean Breithaupt. Steve spent his childhood in Calgary in true Canadian fashion, spending his summers at the Calgary Stampede and winters playing ice hockey and skiing in the Canadian Rockies.
After graduating high school, Steve moved to the states where he received his Bachelor of Engineering at University of Oklahoma and his Master of Business at the University of Texas. It was at UT that he met the love of his life, Donna Lee Jeffers, and they married shortly thereafter. Together they spent a beautiful life together full of laughter, family vacations, and regular attendance of concerts at Hudson Gardens.
Steve was a person of integrity, and was always looking to help those in need. He eventually pursued a career working to increase accessibility to government assistance programs, making sure that every person had equal opportunity to get the care that they need. As a natural born analyst, he honed his love of organization and critical thinking to exceed in the workplace, often noting in regular situations "that's a good data point."
Steve loved life and loved sharing his life with others. He always had an extra ticket to an Av's game or an extra seat at the table. He brought joy and humor wherever he went, never taking himself too seriously, and strove to help others be the best person they could be. His deep compassion and unending support for those around him made him an excellent listener and friend.
Steve was a loving husband to Donna, a loving father to Nicole and Julie and a good friend to many. He will be deeply missed.
Steve is survived by his two daughters, Nicole Abernathy Golob and Julie Anne Abernathy as well as his sister, Lynne Kauppila.
