GEORGE O'BRIEN Obituary

George Wynne O'Brien 3/27/1937 ~ 3/24/2010 As you take the sum of a man's life, if it is difficult to stop listing all the loves of his life, it can only mean his life was well-lived. GeorgeO'Brien's list begins and ends with his wife of 46 years, Charlotte (Graebner) O'Brien. Also on that list are brothers, Michael and Thomas (and Colleen), sister, Nanette Granrath (and Gregory), son Ken (and Lynn), son Scott (and Connie), daughter Kimberly Stienke (and Aaron), son Aaron, and nine grandchildren. Add to that list evenings spent creating oil paintings, sips of hazelnut coffee, Cardinals baseball and Duke basketball, good Merlots, toasted ravioli dinners, sailing on the Mississippi, watching airplanes soar across the sky, enjoying the latest exhibit at the St. Louis Art Museum, and the laughter of family and friends, and you have evidence that George O'Brien lived a good life in his 72 years, and will be remembered - and missed terribly - by all who had the pleasure to know him. Memorial services will held at a later date in St. Louis, Missouri. Family suggests donations be made to the St. Louis Art Museum. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.garnerfuneral.com

O’Brien Family:

My brother sent me the obit for George as I no longer live in St. Louis. My brother, Robert Hammon, was about the same age when we lived on Jamison Avenue at the corner of Lansdowne. Our parents owned a confectionary and we lived upstairs. Since I suffer from old timer’s disease, I am guessing the time period was 1950 to 1956.

I was in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 and my brother was at home helping in the store. As he relayed to me, George was a great fellow and good friend to him.

Of course, I met George through my brother, but I was older and off doing whatever. My wife, daughter and I departed St. Louis in 1959 for Texas.

My purpose in writing is to extend my sympathies for your loss.

Dear Charlotte and Family,
Both Gail and I want to express our deepest sympathy to all of you. The time we were together in St. Louis was a wonderful memory. I, of course, have tons of memories as a child and young adult being around you and then George. I was so proud to be in your wedding. It was one of my first "grown-up" events in my life. We Wish you all Strength and Peace. God Bless and Love to all, Gail and George Obermeyer
