I read and loved so many stories compiled by Brother Hartshorn many years ago when I was growing up. His name was a household name when church books were rarely ever written, except the occasional doctrine-clarifying book like Marvelous Work and a Wonder or Miracle of Forgiveness. I knew his name as well as the prophet's name, if not more so. I remember reading his stories until they were memorized. And I'm sure as I think back, that my father would want me to express his thanks, as well, for many fascinating and well-written accounts, many minutes spent devouring stories that uplifted and edified, before the days when church books were even available as they are today. I'm sure Bother Hartshorn was in part or whole, responsible for my early excitement and love for the Gospel.
Thanks so much for sharing your husband and father, family member.

President Hartshorn taught me more about the Savior and His gospel, it's application, church history, and leadership than any other influence in my life. As our leader in the Missouri, St. Louis mission his influence, mentorship and encouragement were far reaching. As my teacher and friend at BYU he guided my life, enabled my marriage, and exemplified the life of a true servant of the Lord. He was true! He and his wife Bea hold very special places in my heart. I am so grateful that he has fulfilled his mission here on earth. We will mourn his loss here but look forward to a wonderful reunion in heaven. My deepest condolences to Sis. Hartshorn and the family and all those who love him and will miss him. What a great man, an awesome teacher, and example to us all!

I remember Brother Hartshorn when he taught seminary in Grantsville, Utah when I taught at the high school. He was a great person and one who raidiated the spirit of the Savior. It was a joy to have had his friendship that short time in Grantsville. Accept my condolence at this time in your life

My life was blessed to be able to serve with President Leon Hartshorn. I was one of his missionaries while the Hartshorn's served in St. Louis Missouri.
President Hartshorn taught me how to love learning gospel truths and teaching them to others. He influenced me to become a full time teacher in the Seminary and Institute programs. Specifically, he taught me to love stories, especially stories from Church History.
I will remember him most for his love for others, and his bold testimony of Jesus Christ. The world will miss this good man, but his influence will remain with all those who he was able to teach. I love you President Hartshorn.
