Lorna Jones Obituary
1935 ~ 2022
- Lorna Mae Smeath Jones was born November 2, 1935 to John Henry (Jack) Smeath and Alice Delores Anderson Smeath and passed away peacefully on May 18, 2022.
Lorna attended schools in Provo, UT and Graduated from Provo High School and BYU with a degree in Elementary Education.
On September 20, 1957, Lorna married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Russell Howard Jones. They moved to Murray and shortly after had two daughters, Terri and Pam. Lorna continued her long and important teaching career in the Murray School District. Lorna was known as one of the special teachers that cared deeply for her students, their education and wellbeing. Her students adored her.
Lorna loved to paint, bird watch and golf. She was a fan of fresh peas and tomatoes from the garden. She spent many hours painting and teaching others to paint. Lorna's greatest joys was time spent with her family and especially with her Grandkids. The Grandkids reaped the benefits of Lorna's love of teaching. A day with Grandma was a day of learning! Lorna was happy, sweet, kind and stubborn in her ways.
Lorna was preceded in death by her Sweetheart partner and friend, Russell H. Jones, Boyd Smeath, (brother), Donna Smeath Petersen, (Sister), James Richard (Jimmie) Smeath (brother).
Lorna is survived by her two daughters, Terri L. Stoddard and her husband Gary Stoddard and Pamela D. Giles. Seven Grandchildren, Brock and Conner Giles, Rylee Esquibel and her husband Dante Esquibel, Skylar Stoddard and Ali Stoddard, Jordan Stoddard, Landon and Brittney Stoddard, Austin Stoddard and Tara Stoddard. Along with with six great grandchildren, Tres Esquibel, Brooks Stoddard, Zoey Stoddard, Joy Stoddard, Mason and Harper Pettit. She is also survived by her sister, Marilyn Smeath Bown and her husband Gordon Bown and Brother-in-Law Morris S. Petersen.
There will be a graveside service at the Murray City Cemetery located at 5490 South Vine Street, Murray, Utah, on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at 11:00 AM.
