Paul Rubinfeld Obituary

1949 ~ 2018
Paul Ira Rubinfeld passed away from an aggressive form of Parkinson's Disease on March 28, 2018 in Santa Fe, N.M. Paul is survived by his son Nathan and brother Daniel. Paul was the son of William and Ann Rubinfeld, both pre-deceased. He is also survived by Daniel's wife Gail and their daughters Sarah and Rachel with whom he had a long and wonderful relationship.
Paul was born on February 25, 1949 and was raised in Millburn, New Jersey. He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, where he went on to obtain his M.D. in 1975. Paul was board certified in internal medicine at the University of Utah in 1978. He lived and worked in Salt Lake City until 1983, after which he attended the University of Michigan, where he received board certification in anesthesiology. He then moved to Santa Fe, and practiced at St, Vincent's Hospital until retirement.
Paul was an avid hiker in the Wasatch Mtns and an active member of several hiking groups in the Santa Fe area. Paul was also as an avid skier, having served on the ski patrol at Brighton, and having skied with the patrol at Ski Santa Fe as well. He maintained friendships with many people in the Salt Lake Valley, and frequently visited with them. He could be seen skiing the Wasatch slopes over the years, as well as relaxing in a backyard with friends after a long summer hike. His treks through the Himalayas years ago brought him fond memories. Paul was an enthusiastic supporter of music and the arts, in addition to actively supporting a variety of environmental organizations.
A memorial service will be held on April 15, 2018. Information can be found at Riverafamilyfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Paul's name to an organization of your choice.

Paul and I were good friends in middle and high school. I spent time with him and his parents, remember his ham radio days, and played tennis often with him and his father in Taylor Park. Even though we didn't remain close, he took it on himself many years later to find me and visit me when I lived in Maryland. Paul was open and kind, and had an enviable intelligence. We didn't remain in contact, but I will miss my friend.

I will miss you, Paul. Thank you for your special, caring friendship; the many, glorious hikes...often on the spur of the moment; your quick wit, which brought much laughter to so many; and our interesting, plain spoken conversations, including the last.
