Reed Christofferson Obituary

1936 ~ 2013
Reed Kent Christofferson, 77, of Holladay, Utah, passed away on June 23, 2013, at home from natural causes. His wife, Connie, was at his side. Born November 26, 1936, Kent graduated from Olympus High School in 1955. He graduated from the University of Utah with a B.A. in Economics. He then became what he called a "self-employed man," creating many jobs for others over the course of his professional career. As co-founder of Countryside Eggs, he and his associates developed the largest egg production facility east of the Mississippi River. Kent eventually turned his attention to retail clothing with the creation of Mad Man Magee's. Located in one of his old egg production facilities, the Mad Man always had the Levi's you couldn't get anywhere else. Some of Kent's other pursuits included flyfishing, MacKenzie River Boats, NRA, Bonneville Exchange Club, Small Business Administration Board, and the mentoring young startup businesses. As a young man, Kent also fulfilled an LDS Church mission to Copenhagen, Denmark. His life was filled with many church teaching and administrative callings, one which brought great satisfaction was missionary at the LDS Employment Center.
Kent married Connie Gibson on August 4, 1961, in the Logan Temple. Fifty-one years of devoted marriage followed. He and Connie served together as missionaries to juvenile corrections in Utah. They brought great love and understanding to these youths. Kent was a very knowledgeable teacher. He could bring those with questions about their earthly experience together with people, books and The Spirit, creating peace and understanding for those seeking eternal truths. Kent and Connie have two wonderful sons, Chet (wife, ToniRae) and Curtis. They were young men of strength to Kent in his times of need and now to Connie in her travail. Preceded in death by parents Reed Henry and Arla Rita Pack Christofferson; survived by his wife, Connie; brother Brian "Kit" Christofferson and sister Kim Oneil; and grandchildren Kaylee Christofferson and A.J. Hoyt Brown. Kent lived by the words of American poet Ella Wheeler Wilcox: "There is no chance, no destiny, no fate, that can circumvent, or hinder or control the firm resolve of a determined soul."
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 1, 2013 at 10:30am at the Holladay 25th Ward LDS Chapel, 4650 South Naniloa Drive, Holladay, Utah. A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church on Monday from 9:30am to 10:15am prior to services. A light lunch will be served for family and friends from 11:30am-12:30pm. Burial to follow at Logan City Cemetery, 1000 N. 1200 E., Logan, Utah.

Kent Christofferson and his wife Connie played instrumental roles in my life. In 1962, Connie was my 2nd grade teacher and encouraged my twin brother and I to audition for the parts of the Twin Lost Boys in Peter Pan at the University of Utah. We won the audition and were in many plays and musical productions after that, both at the University of Utah and in other theaters.
Later in the mid 80's, Kent had me do "Winning at Work" Life Course training for his company "Mad Man Magee's" Thank you Kent and Connie for believing in me.
Bless you Christofferson Family.
