Dear Karol,
When my husband, Howard Riley, and I were married in 1946, I was welcomed into your family as part of the family. With you and Howard being first cousins and the proximity of the distance between our homes in Bountiful, we were able to enjoy many fun times with your parents and you children. You grew up, married a handsome man by the name of Richard Chase and moved into Salt Lake City. With everyone's busy way of life, we didn't see each other very often, but we did enjoy the times that we visited you in your beautiful home. After the passing of your dear husband, you shared a very special experience that you and he shared just before he stepped through the veil. I have always admired how stalwart and dedicated you were during his illness and passing. And I have been extremely impressed with your determination to go on with your life without his mortal support. However, as you know, and I know since the passing of my dear husband two years ago that their spiritual influence remains in every moment of every day. What a comfort and a blessing it is to know without a doubt that we will have that loving relationship throughout the eternities.
I have enjoyed our visits about family histories and I admire your dedicated efforts and talent in gathering information to share with family members.
Please know of my love for you and your family. Shirley Riley

Richard was a wonderful, sincere individual and a man of integrity that I had the pleasure and opportunity of associating with while he was at Merrill Lynch.

The Leigh Cannon family and the Richard Chase family have shared much as life long friends and neighbors and have many precious memories of joyous and challenging times together, but the greatest tribute I would like to pay to Richard today is to acknowledge and honor YOU, Karol, the amazing woman he chose as his eternal companion. I have seen you walk hand in hand and work side by side supporting Richard with love and strength in every mortal and spiritual experience of life. Now, asked to carry on without him for these twenty years testifies to the fact that Heavenly Father and His son, our Savior Jesus Christ, trusted you enough to call Richard to new assignments knowing that you could and would carry on serving in the kingdom, nurturing his children and grandchildren as well as serving countless others who have needed a tender care giver, a life history written, or a family relationships discovered and ordinances performed in their behalf, etc., etc., etc.
Richard we miss you, but believe in and look forward to continuing our eternal friendship.
Karol, know that Heaven is watching over you always. You are my hero and exemplar.
Much love,
Marybeth

Today, May 18, 2014 is the 75th Anniversary of Richard's birth. Everyone who knew this great man was a happier, better person because of knowing him. Richard and Karol were and are a powerful force for good in the world. Among the many of his accomplishments was his time of service as the Bishop of the 8th Ward in the Salt Lake Mt. Olympus Stake. Always at his side and giving her all, was his dear wife Karol.

My wife Virginia and I feel very blessed to be numbered among his many fans and friends.

With love, respect, and admiration.
