Anthony "Tony" J. Pigneri

Des Moines

Anthony (Tony) Joseph Pigneri passed away on May 2 from heart-related illness. Born June 10, 1929, Tony was a lifelong resident of Des Moines and St. Anthony Catholic Church. He and his wife, Rose C. Aiello, married in 1955 and raised their family in their south-side home.

Tony loved to build and his Contracting career in construction and carpentry spanned several decades. Years of volunteer efforts to St. Anthony's Parish, the Knights of Columbus and the Italian-American Heritage Society were also a passion. He is a member of the American Legion and an Air Force Veteran. He loved to garden.

Tony is survived by his wife, Rose, their six children and their spouses, Rocco (Ann) Pigneri, Anthony (Mary Beth) Pigneri, Tom Pigneri, Margaret (Tim) Carson, Steve (Molly) Pigneri and Frank (Kristina) Pigneri and sixteen grandchildren. Also surviving Tony are his brothers James (Rose) Pigneri, Paul Pigneri, and Charles (Nancy) Pigneri.

His wake is 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, May 6, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with a Rosary at 7 p.m. His Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 7, at St. Anthony Church. Internment at Glendale Cemetery follows the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, the Pigneri family requests donations to the St. Anthony Parish Foundation or Iowa Right to Life. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.ToniniFuneralHome.com.

Rocky and Tony,
Got to know your dad when we bought our first house 24 years ago. He was in charge of handling the punch list. There were a lot of items on the punch list, so we got to see a lot of your Dad. He was a heck of a nice guy, just like you guys. I'm really sorry to hear of his passing.
