Bill Mitchell Obituary

Bill Mitchell

Garland, Texas

Bill was called to be with his Lord and savior on Monday November 4th. Bill was born in Chicago on March 1st, 1940. He grew up in Rockford, IA. He attended and played football at University of Iowa and graduated with a bachelor's degree from Parsons College. Bill worked as a sales person, manager and director for International Paper Company. Since retiring Bill worked at Point of Grace Church in Waukee Iowa. Upon relocating to Dallas to spend time with his grandchildren, he loved serving at Fivestone Community Church in Garland. Bill also was a board Chairman at Putco Inc. in Ankeny Iowa.

Bill recently had taken up gardening with a goal of winning yard of the month (yet unattained). He was a longtime lover of golf, fishing, tennis, card games or anything that would provide fellowship and chance to share the Lord.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce Cutler Mitchell and Isabel Tolar Mitchell, and a son Christian David, and is survived by his wife Linda, sons Matthew, Andrew, Joshua (Wendy), and Joseph (Andrea); grandchildren Sean, Ella, Abraham, William, Ezekiel, Jonathan, and Parker Texas; and sisters Leone, Dolly and Susan.

Bill spent his years serving the Lord, family and church, and his life was a true testament to God's love. He greeted everyone with a huge smile that made you feel comfortable to be in his company and parted with a giant hug that remained long after goodbye. He would always take the extra step to help anyone in need. Competitive yet humble, Bill excelled at most things he tried. He expected everyone to try their hardest but would be the first one with an arm around your shoulder if you failed. He was a great man, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten.

"I have fought the good fight. I have completed the course. I have preserved the faith." 2nd Timothy, 4:7

The Mitchell Family: Unfortunately we never had the honor or the opportunity of meeting Bill, but listening to Joey speak of the fond memories of his upbringing and family life, we can truly understand the love he had for his father and the wonderful man that he was. We are heartbroken and saddened by his dad's sudden passing. Bill and all of the Mitchell Family are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. May God Bless You All! Mike Strada and Andrea Nyakas; friends of Joey and Andrea Mitchell.

Bill challenged me to put my oldest child into christian school. I shared with Bill that I was not sure I could afford to. He said to do it and if I could not pay... he would! We went on Bill's faith that our God would provide. My wife and I enrolled our son into kindergarten. A short time later... Bill moved to Texas. Although I never had to seek Bill out for help... others did on occasion. Three more boys followed my oldest son through a christian school education from kindergarten through graduation. All four have since graduated from ISU and continue to follow our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Looking back, Bill helped us to make one of few real important decisions in life. Thank you! Bill.

My favorite Bill Mitchell story was almost 20 years ago. I was a new Sales Rep with Leslie Midwestern and struggling to some degree. Bill was taking over our division in Ankeny to right the ship. I had just met Bill for the first time and regarded him as a well respected "no-nonsense" kind of guy. The next day I had a rare opportunity to play golf at Wakonda CC with a friend but had to play hooky from work to do so. Somwhere along the way I hit a lousy shot into the opposing fairway. I couldn't reteive my ball as I had to wait for the oncoming group to hit and get out of my errant ways. As the group got closer and closer I realized it was my new boss walking towards me. He greeted me with a big smile and didn't bat an eye that I was golfing when I should have been working. I always respected Bill as a good boss and a good guy. My condolences to the family.

Linda

I was so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. He was always so gracious to Lori and I, with a quick wit and sly smile and a twinkle in his eye. I was sad to see you all move away, but so enjoyed our time together in building a church together. You were the first from our new church to reach out to me and buy your vehicles from me and you don't know how much that meant to me. You both were such a joy to be around. We will be together again with our Lord one day, and will not be surprised that Bill would be waiting at the wonderful gate to give me a hard time.

If I can be of any help you let me know.

With Jesus Love

Linda & Family... We were so saddened to hear of Bill's sudden passing. We will always remember Bill with a smile on his face and that twinkle in his eyes when he knew he "got you" with the humor that was Bill's alone! It was always a pleasure to be a part of Bill's sharing of our Lord! He was a true orator of Jesus. He will be missed. Once you've met Bill, you will never forget him. Our love and prayers for you Linda, as The Lord comforts you with beautiful memories. Love, Lynn & Rich
