BRUCE HENRY PARTRIDGE

Ankeny

Bruce H. Partridge, 63, of Moorhead, MN, died of cancer on Wednesday, March 14, 2012. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 24, 2012 at 11:30 a.m., at Ankeny United Methodist Church in Ankeny, Iowa. Per his wishes, Bruce will be cremated and his ashes scattered over Baptism River in Minnesota.

Bruce was born May 31, 1948 to Ward and Geneva (Raber) Partridge of Maxwell. He grew up in a rural farming community. Bruce attended and graduated from Bondurant-Farrar High School in 1966. He attended Grand View College and the University of Iowa majoring in history. He worked for over 20 years at Yonkers Rehabilitation Center in Des Moines. He worked specifically with patients having spinal injuries, strokes, birth defects, and head injuries. Since June 2009, Bruce served as a tour guide at the Hjemkomst Center Museum of Clay County. His favorite part of working at the museum was meeting new people and adding humor and jokes into his tours.

Bruce was preceded in death by his father, Ward Partridge and grandparents. He is survived by his mother, Geneva, three brothers, Gary, Greg, David (Suzy); two sisters, Carol and Deborah (Larry); eight nephews; two nieces; two great-nephews, and one great-niece. Bruce thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

During his spare time Bruce enjoyed drawing, collecting John Deere tractors, researching his family history, reading, writing, and everything else in between. Memorials can be made to the Hopperstad Stave Church Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County at the Hjemkomst Center.

I remember when our class made floats for the Homecoming parades. Bruce always had a good line about the project. He always had great comments about the happenings in our school, community and our world. May you rest in peace.

Bruce competed in high school track, wrestling, and football. I remember he encouraged us to improve our own performance. He once convinced me to climb the rope in the gymnasium that hung from the ceiling to the floor. I was skeptical but tried and with his coaching made it. He trusted me with some of his unique life experiences including a trip with a wheelchair bound patient to Spain. I miss him and wish we spent more time together.

I remember a knock on my bed room window more times than I will tell here when Bruce had run out of gas on the way home on a Saturday night. Your tank will never be empty again! Miss you friend.

I smiled when I saw he collected John Deere tractors. I remember him talking about how good JD tractors were years ago when we were in high school. I understand his desire to have his ashes scattered on the Baptism River. I've fished that river and know how beautiful a place it is. R.I.P. Bruce. An old friend, Bob Clark.
