Daniel Wise Obituary

Daniel Wise

Prairie Village, Kansas

Daniel Leonard Wise (Dan), 57, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016, as a result of pancreatic cancer at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO.

Dan was born on November 18,1958, to Leonard and Anna Marie Wise. He was the youngest of five children. He graduated from Central Dallas High School in Minburn, IA in 1977. He then attended Iowa State University and graduated with a Business Administration degree in 1982. While attending ISU, Dan worked at WOI-TV in Ames and continued to work there after graduation. During this time, he began freelancing as an Audio Production Engineer (A2) for sports production. He eventually gave up his "day job" to freelance full time. He later moved his home base to Kansas City. Dan was well known for his strong work ethics and no-nonsense approach and became top in his field. He was highly sought after by all of the major TV networks including ESPN, CBS, ABC, NBC, and TBS. They often times contacted him directly to ensure that he would be available to help with the production, especially if it was nationally televised such as the NCAA tournaments. He also worked at all of the home Kansas City Royals and Chiefs games.

Dan enjoyed collecting guns and trap shooting. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching movies. Even though his career was in the sports world, he was not a sports enthusiast and would often times be found watching a movie during his breaks instead of watching the games. He learned how to play cribbage at an early age and enjoyed playing it with family and friends. He was one of the few who could beat his mother at it.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Anna Marie Wise; his four older

siblings: Chuck (Pat) Wise, Vicki (Rick) Buck, Sandy (Lance) Nelson, Don (Debbie) Wise; his close friends: Craig Buckley and Anne Medley; nine nieces and nephews and twelve great-nieces and nephews along with other loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard C. Wise; nephew, Ricky Buck; and niece, Stacey Nelson.

I was one of Dan's roommates in Stange House in Friley Hall at Iowa State when he first came to Iowa State. We roomed together for two quarters. I remember Dan as a very outgoing person who felt he do do almost anything he set his mind to. He was a very avid lover of Mountain Dew! I don't recall knowing he had returned to Iowa State after leaving for medical reasons. It was great to read that he finished his studies at Iowa State and got his degree, then went on to enjoy a very fulfilling life doing something he loved so much.

Having worked with Danny at WOI-TV, I have many fond memories of his talents and work ethic. He was always up for a challenge. He will be remembered for his sense of humor. I will miss him. Leo Runge, Retired Chief Engineer at WOI-TV.
