Dorothy was my grandmother, Faye Schwimmer Phillip's college roommate and lifelong friend. As Faye's granddaughter I spent a lot of time in Aunt Dorothy's company. I remember her as a glamourous, brilliant and joyful person. My love of art is a direct result of her influence.

Dorothy was an amazing woman who had an amazing life. I always enjoyed seeing Dorothy, and had wondered what had happened to her. Dorothy's impact on the community was positive and far reaching. I know firsthand of her profound impact on the Drake University Theatre Department. She was one of its most dedicated and generous supporters. My husband, William S.E. "Doc" Coleman was at Drake from 1966 until his retirement in 2002. Daniel was one of our students, a hard-working and talented actor. He had the lead role - Dr. Johnny - in Doc's 1978 production of Tennessee Williams' "Summer and Smoke." I wrote the music for the production and have very fond memories of working with Danny. When Doc and I hosted a theatre trip to England in the summer of 1978, Dorothy coordinated the travel arrangements and Dan came on our marvelous adventure. Dorothy's most profound impact came after Dan's death in 1984, when she established the Daniel B. Goldberg Artist in Residence Program to honor his memory. It was her generosity that made it possible to bring Clive Elliott into the Drake Theatre Department for so many wonderful years. When Clive retired, money from the fund was used to upgrade and enhance the lobby area of the William S.E. Coleman Studio Theatre. There is a plaque in the Studio lobby honoring this contribution. Not only that, Dorothy's husband was my husband's physician for many years, until Dr. Goldberg's death in March, 1975. Bill always spoke very highly of Dr. Goldberg's care. Thank you, Dorothy, for all that you did and all that you were. You are now with your husband and your son. And may flights of angels sing you to your rest. Our deepest sympathies go to Susan and family.

I always enjoyed Dorothy's vivacity and wit, and had wondered what had happened to her. I met her daughter Susan when Dorothy put on an elegant reception for her at the Des Moines Country Club.
