Henry L. Berrier, 85, of Ottumwa, died at 8:45 p.m. June 16, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

He was born November 24, 1929 in Ottumwa to Henry and Ethel Allen Berrier. He married Mary Ann Davis on November 24, 1950.

Henry had attended Ottumwa High School. As a young man, he was a snare drummer in the Eagles Drill Team. He served with the U.S. Army from November 1946 to November 1949 spending time in Panama, surveying the Panama Canal. Returning from the Army, he worked for the Wapello County Secondary Road Department. He enlisted full time in the Iowa Army National Guard as an Administrative Supply Technician with the 224th Engineering Battalion. He served full time with the Guard for 34 years, retiring as Chief Warrant Officer. He was active on the National Guard Rifle team, winning multiple awards. Henry had transported cars for Vaughn Automotive for 12 years in his retirement.

He was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation and of Knights of Columbus Council #888.

Surviving is his wife, Mary Ann; a daughter, Ann Marie (Doug) Goschke of Port St. Lucie, FL; two sons, Michael Allen Berrier of North Liberty and Scott E. (Jeaneen) Berrier of Blanchard, ID; 8 grandchildren, Bradley Berrier, Ryan Berrier, Mica Klodt, Alexis Hager, Tony Blomme, Eric Blomme, Samantha Blomme Wiese and Amil Goschke; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Deanna Davidson of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, and a brother-in-law, whom he helped raise, Jim Davis.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary of the Visitation in Ottumwa with Father James Betzen CPPS and Father Patrick Hilgendorf concelebrating. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island, IL on Tuesday June 23, 2015 with military honors.

Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Sunday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with the family present from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. A Christian Wake service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Seton Catholic School in Ottumwa or Heartland Humane Society, PO Box 1149, Ottumwa, IA 52501
