Larry R. Cedarstrom, 81, died Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Central Presbyterian Church where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.

Larry was born July 28, 1934 in Des Moines to Harold and Marjorie Cedarstrom of Beaverdale. He was the fourth son of a family of seven children. Larry was raised in Des Moines and was a graduate of Roosevelt High School. He also attended the University of Iowa and Drake University.

Larry was a well known and highly respected commercial real estate broker with a career that spanned over 60 years in the Des Moines area. Among many of his professional accomplishments: he was named commercial broker of the year, president and owner of Universal Realty, vice president of Draper and Kramer of Iowa, Inc., president of Grubb and Ellis/Mid America Commercial, taught high school children an introduction to Real Estate course, served on various committees and real estate boards, and earned an SIOR professional designation and was a member of the ICREA Club. Larry was still an active and successful broker for NAI/Optimum Commercial Real Estate.

Memberships include Za-GA-Zig Shrine, Des Moines Chamber of Commerce Goodwill Tours, 8 o'clock Club, past president of Hyperion Field Club and the club's longest active member (and held all offices on board of directors). Larry was the City Tennis Champ, an avid golfer - winning the Hyperion Field Club Men's Championship several times. Larry scored three holes in one in his golfing career.

Larry was a true gentleman, always thinking and caring for others, and making them feel special. He naturally drew others close to him. Larry was extremely outgoing and friendly, wherever he would go he was recognized and people wanted to greet him.

Larry was an amazing and loving family man; his survivors include his wife of 35 years, Marilynn(Rutherford); daughter, Janell (Bill) Sanz of Vista, CA; granddaughters: Amy and Jenna Wysocki of Carlsbad, CA; siblings: Thomas F. Cedarstrom of Pacific Grove, CA, Sandra F.(Allen) Schroder of West Des Moines, Susan G. James of Kansas City, MO. Larry was preceded in death by his son, Larry R. Cedarstrom II "Buddy"; brothers: Jack R., James H., William G. Cedarstrom; brother in law, Ron James.

Marilyn, I was so sorry to hear about Larry and your loss. The times at the reunions were great and his story about his relationship with Miss Brody had all of us in tears. He will be missed as he was a bright light at the reunions.

I was so shocked to see that Larry had passed. I just talked to him in July and heard all about the move to their new home. Larry was always so kind, positive, sweet and gentle.
