Richard Fagan Obituary

Richard "Dick" Fagan

Highland, IL

Surrounded by family Richard "Dick" Fagan went to be with our Lord on February 23rd 2015 after a brief illness. Dick was born on the 20th of Oct 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa; the second child of James and Ruth Fagan. Dick graduated from Roosevelt High School in Jan 1945 two years later he met the love of his life Jean Wallace and were married in 1947. Dick had a full life and was a proud American devoting his life to public service. He joined the Army in Feb 1945 and served in the south pacific theater of operations at the end of WWII. After his service in the Army he remained a civilian until he again felt the call of public duty and in 1950 joined the 132nd Tactical Fighter Wing, Iowa Air National Guard. He completed 30 plus years of service with the guard achieving the rank of CMSgt, and was a full time air technician. With his last three years of military service he accepted an active duty position with the National Guard Bureau in the Panama Canal Zone, acting as the guard liaison between the active duty and guard in support of Operation "Coronet Cove". His leisure time was spent with his family playing golf, bowling, and fishing. His retirement years were spent tinkering around the house and enjoying his grandchildren. Dick will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the "Wounded Warrior Project". Funeral service will be held at Forest Park East in Webster, TX.

Grandpa you were the best grandpa anyone could ever have. You taught me to work hard and do your best and everything else will fall into place...you taught me the meaning of family. I remember when I had a history class in elementary school and the teacher asked for volunteers to come talk to my class about ww 2 you stood up in front of my class and told them what you experienced . You are my hero and will be forever in my heart. I can only imagine your first embrace with Grandma...
