FRANK SIMONE Obituary
The friends, members and golfers at Giant Oak Golf Club of Temperance, MI are grieving because the owner and co-founder of Giant Oak, Frank Simone, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2003 in his home. Giant Oak will never be the same without Frank calling the shots. Although Frank "retired" from Giant Oak, he always stayed involved in the day to day operations. The people of Temperance will miss seeing Frank at his daily stops at the bank, post office, and local stores. Trips to the Windsor Casino, playing pinochle in the morning at Giant Oak, bowling and golfing in the Wednesday noon league with his friends were among his favorite pastimes. Born in Dearborn, Michigan on May 2, 1927 to Bartolomeo and Marie (Rosati) Simone, he graduated from Holy Redeemer High School in Detroit in 1944. He married Alba Zanier July 14, 1951 at Holy Redeemer Church in Detroit where they also celebrated their Golden Anniversary in 2001. They lived in Trenton before moving to Temperance. Frank is survived by his loving wife; Alba, children; Marianne (Richard) Robinson of Trenton, Jeanne (Skip) Howey of Grosse Ile, and Frank (Carol) Simone, Jr. of Sylvania, Ohio; nine grandchildren; Sara, Erica, John, Dana, Stefanie, David, Michael, Gordon, and MacGregor; and sister Gertrude (John) Ventura of Trenton. Frank served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He formerly worked for the Kroger company for 33 years. Frank was one of the founders of the Giant Oak Golf Club in 1969 and also developed the Giant Oak Estates in 1988. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. The Bedford Business Assn, Knights of Columbus in Trenton, Downriver Italian American Club, National Italian American Foundation of Toledo, Ohio, Amici Club, participated in the K of C State Bowling Tournaments, and hosted the DDQ Golf Tournament for the past 15 years at Giant Oak, which raised money for local charities. Visitation will be held Thursday from 6-9 p.m. and Friday 2-8 p.m. in the Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Avenue, Temperance, MI (734)847-3841. Funeral Services will begin Saturday 9:30 a.m. in the Chapel with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church celebrated by the Pastor Rev. Steve Vileo with interment in the church cemetery. Memorials preferred to Bedford Volunteer Fire Department or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
