Harper Woods - KEVIN SULLIVAN DEATH NOTICE

George Kevin ("Kevin") Sullivan, 65, of Harper Woods, a long-time Detroit area video producer/editor, and the "Commissioner" of the KSHL, a long-standing hockey league on the City's east side, passed away Saturday, April 21, following a battle with cancer. Kevin was a 1971 graduate of Austin High School and earned a B.A. degree in Communications from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo in 1975, followed by an M.Ed. degree in Instructional Technology from Wayne State University. While a student at WMU, Kevin was a member of a four-person comedy troupe that included popular comedian Tim Allen, a fellow student at WMU. Kevin later worked in Communication and TV productions for various Detroit area companies and television production houses including Convergent Media, Ford Communications Network, Filmcraft Video and Producers' Color Service. He was also a freelance video producer for the telecasts of Detroit baseball, football, hockey and basketball events, as well as production assistance for other local programming, including the broadcasts by Jack Van Impe Ministries that originated in the Detroit area. Kevin was most passionate about ice hockey in Detroit and began to play the game in 1985, when he and his three brothers first began renting local rinks for games with their hockey-playing friends. Kevin soon took over management of the twice-weekly games and became so engrossed with the project that the participants soon dubbed the games as the Kevin Sullivan Hockey League and named Kevin as The Commish in recognition of his role as the Commissioner of the league. During the more than 30 years that the group has continued to play for weekly games, the participants have included numerous lawyers, judges, prosecutors, media personalities and production personnel as well as current and former Detroit Tigers and a Detroit Red Wing.

Kevin is survived by his wife, Kristin Olin-Sullivan, his daughter, Molly Sullivan and son, Sean Sullivan; and nine sisters and brothers : Mary Beth (Dave) Calandro, Jane (Hon. Robert J.) Colombo, Joseph (Cathleen), Hon. Brian R. (Tracy), Thomas, Anne M. (Rudy) De Leon, James J. (Laura Zawissa), Elizabeth Laurie (Leo) Nishio and Stacey (Karl) Zuk.

He was predeceased by his father Hon. Joseph A. Sullivan and mother Elizabeth M. Lynch Sullivan and his father-in-law James Olin

I am so sorry to hear about Kevin's death, we were good (work) friends many years ago. He always kept us laughing and was a great mentor to the assistant editor staff at PCS. I remember his love of hockey and humor... Rest In Peace, Kevin, you were a gem!
