Aunt Bert was a remarkable woman! Kind. Loving. Generous. Infectious laugh. Beautiful smile. Beautiful woman who loved the Lord. Knowing her has enriched my life beyond measure.

I remember her telling me about the time she first found out that airplanes existed. She was so frightened over seeing this "thing" flying overhead that she jumped into a ditch! The last time I saw her was in 2002 when Roquita and I sat at the dinner table at my mother's home. Aunt Bert told one of the funniest jokes I'd ever heard. Remembering it still brings a smile to my face.

When my brothers David and Rickey and I would visit her, we could always count on tons of food - and fun climbing that BIG tree in the backyard. I also think of figs and German chocolate cake stacked 10 stories high with tons of coconut in the frosting.

My mother adored her older sister. Aunt Bert was always there for her. I miss you sweet, sweet Lady. But I know I will see you again at the Resurrection. And I am comforted knowing that you are with the love of your life - Jesus. 'Til we meet in heaven...

Aunt Bert was my mother's oldest living sister. I'm told I have a smile and hearty laugh just like my aunt. I have so many wonderful memories of the times I've shared with Aunt Bert. But what I remember the most was her last visit in Houston in 2002 (I believe)when she vacationed with her son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren and great granchildren. My mother and I had the wonderful opportunity of having dinner with Aunt Bert. What a treat! We laughed, told jokes and just reminisced of our past times together. Aunt Bert was such a wonderful story teller and she had great jokes! I will truly miss her for her warmth, love, endearment and laughter. I sincerely believe that laughter/humor is necessary in life. I have no doubt my aunt lived a fulfilling life. The Lord said "well done, my good and faithful servant" and called her home to be face to face with our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Aunt Bert--my dad, Toddy and Lacy have been waiting for you. I'm sure you have a couple of jokes to share with them. You will always been in my thoughts. I love you and I'll miss you. P.S. I will keep an eye on your daughter and son-in-law (Doris and Eddy). Your neice - Tee!!!!

Doris,

For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. We thank God that Bertha Chatmon is on her way to her mansion, not made with hands. We pray that you would look to Christ for comfort and remember all the good times and the long life that Christ blessed you to share with you loving mother. We will continue to pray your strength in the Lord.
