David McGilvray Obituary

David Jetton McGilvray, 73, of North Richland Hills, Texas, passed away March 22, 2021, due to complications from pneumonia. Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 27, at The Hills Church in North Richland Hills. Memorials: Donations may be made in his honor to The Community Enrichment Center in North Richland Hills. David was born November 9, 1947, in Fort Worth, Texas, the son Clayton and Ann McGilvray. He was the older brother of Clay McGilvray. He was a member of the class of '66 at Richland High School and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1971.  On September 14, 1968, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Annette McKee, in Richland Hills. After serving 7 years in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot, he joined Southwest Airlines in 1979, retiring after 28 years in 2007.  When not flying, there was no project at home too large for him to tackle.  He enjoyed traveling extensively, especially on hunting and camping trips with his family in southern Colorado and on their land in Ranger, Texas.  An avid local sports fan, he attended Ranger games and U.T. tailgates. The eyes of Texas will always be upon him. He was a lifelong member of The Hills Church. To know David was to become part of his family.  He is lovingly remembered as a caring and generous son, brother, husband, father, and "Papa". David was preceded in death by his father, Clayton McGilvray; and his mother, Ann (McHone) McGilvray. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary; brother, Clay and wife, Lynne McGilvray; sons, Adam and wife, Nicole of Austin, Texas, Mac and wife, Heather of North Richland Hills, Texas, Daniel and wife, Jana of Fort Worth, Texas; daughter, Amanda and husband, Bryan Poehler of North Richland Hills, Texas; grandchildren, Alexa, Madelyn, Brynley, Ryan, Colin, Chase, and one on the way; and numerous extended family. Special thanks to the Baylor Scott & White Grapevine ICU staff for their loving care.

Our prayers are with Mary and the McGilvray family. So many of my high school memories are wrapped up with Mary and David. The Richland High School Class of '66 are so proud to have been classmates of David & his wife Mary. David was an outstanding student and athlete. We join Mary, his wife of 52 years and his large extended family in celebrating what a good friend and example he was to all his family members. Yes, he did love his Texas Longhorns. The only time he missed a class reunion was if the date conflicted with a game.
What a blessing to have known David for all these years.
