I didnt have the chance to know Don for very long, but I will never forget how sweet he was to me and my mom after the death of moms brother James. I could just tell that he was a great person. He and his wife Florence took great care of my uncle as he aged. I am grateful to them both.

I only saw this obituary by chance in the 2/19/20 Star Telegram print edition, during a brief visit to Arlington. I was a player on the autumn 1964 South Davis Bulldog team, coached by Don Strother. He was absolutely great as a leader -- and, he coached our team to the city championship that year. It is interesting/touching that his family felt it fit to mention that South Davis Elementary coaching job. It obviously meant a great deal to Coach Strother too.

After we'd won the championship, he arranged a bus trip for the team to watch the Dallas Cowboys play the Green Bay Packers in the Cotton Bowl -- Tom Landry, Vince Lombardi, Don Meredith, Bart Starr, those pro teams in their classic prime. I only knew Coach Strother for a few weeks, when I was 11 and in 6th grade, but he definitely made a lasting positive impression.

Love both Coach Strother and Coach LaVallee. Thought it was amazing Bill LaVallee mentioned in the obit.
My freshman year at UTA I while on football scholarship, I attended a UTA baseball game and saw Coach Strother and grabbed a seat beside him.
He was genuinely interested in how I was doing and when he asked me about the coaching staff, he knew more about them than I did. He amazed me.
Saw Coach Strother occasionally when i was attending TCU in 79/80 at football and basketball games. Always asked how I was doing and had an insight to the particular game or personnel we were watching.
15 years ago I attended a Viewing at Wade Funeral for the father of a college girlfriend. Bill LaVallee was there. I introduced myself and we chatted. I asked if he knew what Coach Strother was doing up to these days ....
He's in Pennsylvania ... attending a Coaches Clinic!

Coach Strother and Coach LaVallee made us better in players and young boys by their discipline, fairness and devotion to true leadership by example.

I will miss Coach.
