Jan Womble Obituary

Jan Marie Womble, 72, passed away on February 9, 2026, in Fort Worth, Texas. Born on August 21, 1953, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Jan's family moved to Arlington at a young age and spent the rest of her life rooted in the community she loved.

The second-oldest child and oldest daughter of six, Jan developed a personality that was reserved at times, but feisty and opinionated once she was comfortable around you. She attended St. Maria Goretti Catholic School through eighth grade and transitioned to Ousley Junior High. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1971 where she took choir. It was there, during her junior year, that she began dating the love of her life, Jerrell. The two were married on December 14, 1973, beginning a partnership marked by devotion, laughter, and a home that always felt welcoming.

Above all else, Jan loved her family. She was proud of her children, but what she loved more than anything was being a grandmother to her two grandchildren Madison and Braeden. Her world often revolved around spoiling them with love and gifts. She never missed her grandson's baseball games, and her love of books and music helped shape her granddaughter's tastes. She was unwavering in her love and support for them.

Jan had many interests that made her unique. She was known for her love of snowmen and adorned her house in snowmen that stayed up year-round. She loved horror novels and murder mysteries, Stephen King being among her favorites, owning multiple first-editions and almost every book he published. She loved Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, classic rock and the radio pop quizzes she often gave - "Who sings this??"

Jan had a fierce love for hockey. She and her husband held Dallas Stars season tickets for 20 years and cherished countless games side-by-side, sharing the joy with their grandchildren and making lifelong friends. They traveled to see the Stars play in unforgettable arenas: Long Island, Vancouver, Washington D.C., and even Madison Square Garden.

Being a New Orleans native, Jan was proud to say, "I was born on the Bayou" and loved her Cajun heritage. She loved a good pot of chicken and sausage gumbo and a healthy serving of dirty rice, dishes she often made and shared with others. She also carried a strong spirit of service throughout her life, proudly participating in Girl Scouts and later serving as a troop leader when her daughter, Jerilyn, was a scout. Jan was a member of Midway Church of Christ in Hurst, Texas.

Jan was accomplished and driven, building a remarkable career in nursing and healthcare leadership. She earned her Bachelor of Nursing from The University of Texas at Arlington in 1981 and began her career at Arlington Memorial Hospital, then at Arlington Community Hospital in the recovery room, serving as head nurse for two years. She later transitioned into the insurance and healthcare management field, working with AETNA, served as a Director with Gordian Health Management, and ended her career at Texas Health Resources. Jan was especially proud to earn her master's degree from Texas Christian University-forever a proud Horned Frog and loyal TCU fan.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Benoit and Marjorie Benoit; her brother, Gary Benoit; and her brother-in-law, Bobby Womble.

She is survived by her husband, Jerrell Womble; daughter, Jerilyn Gover and husband Stan; son, Jacob Womble; brother, Kyle Benoit; sisters, Joann Burnum and husband Denny, Colette Cherry and husband Steven, and Amy Benoit; grandchildren, Madison Gover and Braeden Gover; brother-in-law, Paul Womble and wife Teresa; sister-in-law, Becky Womble; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and her loving aunt Eva Champagne.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wade Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, February 20, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Wade Funeral Home, with a graveside service to follow at Moore Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Arlington Life Shelter, Mission Arlington, and Girl Scouts of America.
