Grant O'Neill Obituary

Grant Alexander Bird O'Neill
March 5, 1990-Dec. 14, 2012

Grant was called to be with The Lord after a year long fight with cancer.
He was raised in Edmonds, Washington and attended Edmonds Woodway High School.
He enrolled in Job Corps Culinary Arts program, as cooking was his passion. He was most recently employed at the family business in Everett.
Grant is survived by father, Tim O'Neill (Gena Cernich); mother, Elizabeth Bird (Gary Thompson); sister, Stephanie Bird O'Neill; brother, Ryan Bird O'Neill; aunt and uncle, Ray and Theresa Loosveldt; cousin, Alisa (Mike) Cordell; a very special niece, Madison Cordell; and step-siblings, Karlee and Taylor Cernich; along with numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will miss his giant 6'9 presence, huge smile, dry sense of humor and love for family.
Mass will be held Friday, December 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Parish 6511-176th St. SW, Lynnwood, WA 98037 followed by reception at church. Call for info regarding gathering at Grant's Edmonds home after service, then an Irish wake at Grants Mukilteo Home afterward.
Grant was True of Heart, Firm of Conviction, Champion of the Underdog, and a gift to us beyond measure.

Grant, I never have gotten used to you not being there. Even still, all of the holidays and the milestones that are celebrated your absence is felt acutely. Something will always be missing at every family event or occasion. I don't think I can approach anything in life with just pure joy, there's a bittersweet element to my life experiences now. But it was such an honor and a pleasure to know you and be your sister...I would choose to love you and lose you all over again rather than not know this pain. cancer. I love you baby bro. I miss you to my bones.

Grantly, I miss you so terribly, and the huge hole you have left in my life is threatening to swallow me whole. Your wry wit, your love of life and the humorous outlook that you held for it, your huge heart, sweet empathy, and original personality, and your towering presence are remembered and their loss grieved for constantly. I love you so much baby bro, and the world is almost unrecognizable without you in it. I am so lucky to be your big sister and to have had the privilege of knowing and loving you. You have made this world a brighter place by gracing us all with the wonderful quirky person that is Grant. I love you. So so much.

Grant and I had been childhood friends since our middle school years. We became best friends and that never changed throughout the years. His unique personality always kept everyone that knew him in good humor, and that will be one of the things I miss most about him. He will be missed and his memory will be cherished by everyone that knew and loved him.

I haven't seen you since you were about eight-years-old but I the time I spend with you and your brother and sister remain some of my fondest memories. You were the most creative kid when it came to making up games. You always made me laugh. My heart goes out to your family.

Grant and I met at job corps. We came in the same day. From that day on we became close as ever, where I was, he was there. And vice versa. Grant was the most amazing best friend anyone could have asked for. He stood up for everything he believed in. And for those he cared for. memories of His smiles and laughs, hugs and love still warms my heart even through the pain. My condolences to the O'Neill family. Missing you guys and holding you in my heart. I can't wait until I can come home and see you all again. And to pay my respects. He was taken too soon. :( until then... You're all in my heart, always.

While a student in my classes I always saw Grant as the the protector of the others. He was more willing than most students to help and support his friends. He had a heart bigger than even he was tall. Grant was funny and sincere, he was a romantic and realist. Grant wanted to find the right way to be, that is high praise. I will keep him and his family in my thoughts.

December 21, 2012

I am so saddedned to learn of Grant's passing. Please accept my most sincere condolences. His huge, warm smile is a strong memory for me, as I am sure it is for all who knew him. Thinking of you all.

I share in your sorrow for the loss of your beloved son. It was a pleasure knowing him for 4 years at Edmonds-Woodway High School. I feel I learned more from him and he from me; he was funny, kind, sensitive and made tremendous growth in high school. I was very proud of the person he became. May God rest his soul and may you live many years to cherish the fond memories you have of him.

May his memory be eternal.

Fondly,
Deena Maroutsos
