James Winslett Obituary

James Phillip Winslett, 72, passed away at a local care facility Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010.
Memorial service: 10 a.m. Saturday in Laurel Land Chapel of Chimes of Fort Worth.
Jim was born Oct. 12, 1937, in Fort Worth. He was a lifelong resident of Fort Worth and graduated from Paschal High School in 1955. Jim played split end on the Paschal football team, where he caught passes thrown by future NFL quarterback Frank Ryan. He worked in the paper business for many years after graduation. Later in his life, Jim worked in the security industry as a self-employed private investigator.
Jim was a man of wide-ranging interests and hobbies. He loved music and could often be found tapping a tambourine in time to Trini Lopez or Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. He played the drums, perhaps not expertly, but with joy and enthusiasm. Jim was also a licensed pilot. He was a confirmed sports fan who spent many Sunday afternoons with his sons alternately cursing and cheering for the Dallas Cowboys. Jim played golf and helped instill in his two boys a love of the game, until a wrist injury forced him to relegate his clubs to the garage.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Vernon "Babe" Winslett; his mother, Sybil "Mimi" Winslett; brother, Vernon; sister, Shirley Mothershead; and niece, Donna Kay Reed.
Survivors: Son, Greg and his wife, Rhonda; son, Mark and his wife, Cynthia; and grandsons, Sam, Jake, Trey, Adam and Isaac.

I hadn't seen Jim in several years but worked with him closely from 1990 to 2000 as a paralegal. He was always friendly and kind and quite a gentleman. My heartfelt sympathies to his sons and grandchildren. I know Jim will be missed.
