Joe Campbell Obituary

Joe Moore Campbell

December 1, 1935 - July 17, 2025

Westworth Village, Texas - Joe Moore Campbell passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, at the age of 89.

Born in Pecos, Texas, to Virgil Campbell and Winnie May (Whitmire) Campbell, Joe graduated from Pecos High School and went on to earn a degree in Mathematics from Sul Ross State College in Alpine, Texas.

After being drafted into the U.S. Army, Joe served two years at Fort Huachuca in Arizona. Following his service, he moved to Odessa to be near his parents and began working for the General Tire and Rubber Company.

It was in Odessa that Joe met Melva Jane Pearl through mutual friends. After a year of dating and with some encouragement from those friends, they married in Juarez, Mexico, on January 23, 1965.

The couple moved to River Oaks in 1966, where Joe began his career at General Dynamics. In 1969, they settled in Westworth Village. Joe joined Bell Helicopter in 1973 as a computer analyst and remained there until his retirement in 1998.

Joe enjoyed tennis and golf, participating in local leagues for many years. He also had a deep appreciation for music. Family vacations often featured impromptu music sessions, with Joe playing the fiddle while others joined in song.

In 2004, Joe and Melva purchased a lake house on Palo Pinto Lake, where they spent many enjoyable years fishing, relaxing, and hosting friends and family. At home, Joe found great joy in caring for animals, especially cats. He had a soft spot for strays and was actively involved in the spaying and neutering of neighborhood feral cats. He also designed and maintained a beautiful koi pond in their backyard, taking pride in keeping it lush and thriving.

This past January, Joe and Melva celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with dear friends from Westworth Church of Christ, where they have been members for over 50 years. The love and support of this church community enriched Joe's life in countless ways.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his twin sister, Joann; and his brother, Wesley. He is survived by his wife, Melva Pearl Campbell; his niece, Shauna Campbell; and his nephews, Craig Campbell, Kevin Campbell, and Thorne Campbell.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30th, 2025 inside the Greenwood Memorial Park facilities and a graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. A 2:00 p.m. afternoon memorial service will be held for Joe at Westworth Church of Christ, 5728 White Settlement Rd, Westworth Village, TX 76114 the same day.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of North Texas (https://www.hsnt.org/make-a-tribute).
